Hello,

I recently took my GMAT and scored 640 (Quant: 47, Verbal 31, AWA :5.5). My target school is Chicago Booth and nothing else. I have over 7 years work experience. And at my work I have been promoted 3 times in 5 years. I have a bachelors from an university in India and a Master's from an american university. I am seriously considering taking up the GMAT again. But I am torn and not really sure. Should I take the GMAT again or focus on the application process? I am thinking of part-time evening MBA.

Thanks a bunch.

Hi tsanje1,

I recommend you take the GMAT test again. The reason is that, let's consider Chicago Booth. The average GMAT score is 720, with an 80% range of 660-760. If you applied to the school, your score would be in the bottom 10th percentile. This doesn't mean you wouldn't be accepted, but it is not a preferable position to be in.

Although you are applying to the part-time program (which has a lower average GMAT score), and your work experience will be considered more than your GMAT score and undergraduate record, you will still improve your chances of acceptance with an improved GMAT score.

We also have several case studies of candidates who were accepted into top programs with low GMAT scores. Here is one case study:

Hope this was of help.

Cheers,

I am currently working on taking the GMAT again.
On a side note, what score would make my GMAT a non-factor for Booth? (Should I aim for something around 720)?

Hi tsanje1,

I believe the average GMAT score for the Booth part-time evening MBA program is 680. I would aim for at least that score.

Best,
