Re: LSAT CR / RC , Powerscore CR ? [#permalink]

Hello,
Im a non-native english speaker. My reading speed is very slow because I have never had a habit of reading. My vocabulary/grammar is decent, so I do well on Sentence Correction. But in order to be able to complete the verbal section comfortably with high comprehension what should I practice?

I am aiming for a 720+ score and have just about 2 months before the exam (november 12th). I have all the MGMAT books, should I be buying powerscore CR as well ?

Have no idea about LSATs and whether they would be helpful for RC / CR , and how many of the questions should I do etc?

Any suggestions would really help me out .

Thanks

Hi trad, welcome to gmat club!!!
First of all you cant say that you will do good in SC as your grammer/vocab is fine. :? GMAT SC is quite a different beast that requires a different strategy altogether. You have MGMAT guides & I think these are quite sufficient to cross 700. Kindly also note that these books help you understand & devise some necessary strategies to tackle GMAT, rest of the hard work lies with the student. So be proactive in your apporach & make intensive use of MGMAT guides.

For CR, I think MGMAT guides is enough, but if you are curious to see Powerscore CR then you may go through it. But dont utilize both MGMAT & P.Score CR. Just follow the strategies mentioned in anyone of these books.

Best of luck & keep us posted. :)

Definitely get Powerscore CR, do not use LSAT questions unless you run out of CR questions. You should have plenty from OG 12/11 and verbal review guide.

Best wishes,

Lot of people swear by powerscore CR...

So I will go with the advice of the gurus...:P

LSAT CR are normally difficult with lot of types which are not tested on GMAT .

Unless you run out of all the material OG 10,11 and 12 dont go for LSAT.

best of luck for your studies.

i think you have the tools you need to work with already but to improve powerscore is certainly nice. CR is a weird thing cause you know exactly what type of ques you will be getting - the rest hinges on your reading and reasoning skills unlike quant where you know what to do..

I agree with most opinions expressed here. The Powerscore CR is an excellent starting point for someone who struggles with reading. I would also advice you to generally read an article or two daily from magazines like The Economist or from newspapers like The New York Times/Wall Street Journal. It'll help build your English acumen and generally prepare you for better reading. Try choosing articles that you would normally just skip :)

The bolded portion is most important.
