Please point out where I am going wrong.

Area of rectangle/sqaure (assumption: TV is either rectangle or square) = $$\frac{d^2}{2}$$ where d = diagonal.

So, doesn't question itself suffice, in this case?

Area of rectangle does not equal to $$\frac{d^2}{2}$$.
