Let Ra be the rate of Machine A and Rb be the rate of Machine B, and Ta be the time for Machine A to produce 1 widget.

Ra + Rb = 1/3 widget in 1 hour

2Ra + Rb = 1/2 widget in 1 hour

Therefore what is Ta to produce 1 widget? Find Ta

Therefore Rb = 1/3-Ra

Ra = 1/2 - 1/3

Ra = 1/6 of a widget in 1 hour
