Manage GMAT & CFA Prep

Hello,

I am currently working at JP Morgan within the Corporate Investment Bank, so my hours vary week to week. At the same time I took Veritas Prep class in March, and have been struggling to consistently study for the GMAT exam. My main struggle lies with data sufficiency. At the same time my CFA classes begin on July 25th, and my exam is December 2nd. Would one recommend taking the GMAT within the next month, and focus on CFA until December or is it better to take CFA exam out of the way, and focus on GMAT thereafter? I intend to go to school Fall '18, or even Fall '19. I would appreciate any advise, and any particular strategy I can take.

Hi Nikhil,

You've named some highly competitive Schools, so having a competitive GMAT Score will be a 'must' for your applications. The decision of whether to take the GMAT in the next month or not depends on your current CAT scores and your overall goal score, so we should start there:

1) How have you scored on each of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
2) Did you take the FULL CAT each time?
3) What is your goal score?

Generally I'd suggest not rushing into this, but this decision will really come down to where you are right now in terms of how well you're doing on your practice tests (and how much needs to be done).

I have been scoring between 650-670 on my Veritas Prep exams. I have been able to finish each exam on time, and at times even with a couple of minutes remaining. My goal score is above 700 of course.

Hi Nikhil,

If you're considering taking the GMAT in the next month, then we need to better define what you need to work on to improve your score. Thus, you're going to be have to be more specific with the answers to the questions I asked.

1) How have you scored on each of your individual CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for each)?

I was a 46 on Quant and 33 on Verbal on my last exam.
