Re: Many movies and books today base their characters on Dickens’ Ebenezer [#permalink]
Many movies and books today base their characters on Dickens’ Ebenezer Scrooge, as they do Oliver Twist, and Ebenezer Scrooge, for instance, can be seen reimagined in the 1988 movie Scrooged.
A) Many movies and books today base their characters on Dickens’ Ebenezer Scrooge, as they do Oliver Twist, and Ebenezer Scrooge, for instance, can be seen reimagined in the 1988 movie Scrooged.
B) Dickens’ characters Ebenezer Scrooge and Oliver Twist are the basis of many characters in today’s movies and books, being reimagined for example in the 1988 movie Scrooged.
C) Dickens’ characters, such as Ebenezer Scrooge, who can be seen reimagined in the 1988 movie Scrooged, and Oliver Twist, are the basis for many characters in today’s movies and books.
D) Dickens’ characters Ebenezer Scrooge and Oliver Twist are the basis for many characters in today’s movies and books, and the 1988 movie Scrooged used Ebenezer Scrooge, for instance.
E) Being used as the basis for many character’s in today’s movies and books is Ebenezer Scrooge, the same as Oliver Twist, for instance in the 1988 movie Scrooged.

My take:
1. Read the original sentence for 30-40 sec
2. Now if we notice 'they' -> try replacing the pronoun and see if it makes sense
a. characters do Oliver Twist
b. movies and books do Oliver Twist

These are all awkward construction and does not logically add the meaning .

3. So now we know the error spot. Look for the options
4. C and D looks OK
5. In D... Parallelism issue -> are the basis in 1st part and used in 2 part. Also if we notice movie used is awkward.
So C should be the answer

Option C makes a complete meaningful sentence. use of being is mostly considered wrong in Gmat.

Re: Many movies and books today base their characters on Dickens’ Ebenezer [#permalink]
A) Many movies and books today base their characters on Dickens’ Ebenezer Scrooge, as they do Oliver Twist, and Ebenezer Scrooge, for instance, can be seen reimagined in the 1988 movie Scrooged.-- misplaced modifier issue

B) Dickens’ characters Ebenezer Scrooge and Oliver Twist are the basis of many characters in today’s movies and books, being reimagined for example in the 1988 movie Scrooged.-- here being is modifying entire proceeding clause , which is wrong .it should modify Ebenzer scrooge only

C) Dickens’ characters, such as Ebenezer Scrooge, who can be seen reimagined in the 1988 movie Scrooged, and Oliver Twist, are the basis for many characters in today’s movies and books.- conveying right meaning plus modifiers are modifying right nouns

D) Dickens’ characters Ebenezer Scrooge and Oliver Twist are the basis for many characters in today’s movies and books, and the 1988 movie Scrooged used Ebenezer Scrooge, for instance.-- out

E) Being used as the basis for many character’s in today’s movies and books is Ebenezer Scrooge, the same as Oliver Twist, for instance in the 1988 movie Scrooged.-- being is usually wrong on Gmat
