"residents do not share the same ethnic heritage with Northeasterners"- I guess I don't know exactly why share with is wrong. But it seems like you couldn't share the same heritage with Northeasterners. I think it would be like saying that I don't share the same nationality with you... it just doesn't work.

I think the fundamental problem here "sharing of ethnic heritage" . I think you either have same ethnic heritage or you dont.
Thats why C stands out as correct
