Hi Linda,
I am applying to top MBA programs. My wife is also applying to the same programs. We have similar profiles (non-profit background in a developing country, high gmats and extracurricular activities).
Do we have to state that we are appying as a married couple in our optional essays?
Apart from being individually evaluated, Do you think that we gonna be evaluated as a couple?
Do you think that our chances to be accepted decrease because both of us have similar profiles?
Thanks.
We worked with a couple several years ago that had a somewhat similar situation. They did extremely well. They weren't accepted everywhere, but they were accepted at most of the schools they applied to and ended up a one of their top choices. The fact that they had similar professional paths didn't seem to hurth them at all. Their essays still brought out their individuality.
You don't need to mention in the optional essays that you are applying as a couple. I suspect that in a case where both parties are qualified and the school is really interested in one member in the couple, that interest could actually help the second party.
Good luck!
