OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Maybe every travel guide that contains references to Italy recommends that tourists, especially those in search of a romantic atmosphere, visit the "floating", uniquely beautiful city of Venice.

A. Maybe every travel guide that contains references to Italy recommends that tourists, especially those in search of a romantic atmosphere, visit the"floating", uniquely beautiful

Incorrect.

The word maybe is considered too simple for the GMAT. Thus, whenever you see it in a Sentence Correction question, eliminate all answer choices that include it, and choose answer choices that use perhaps, possibly or probably instead.

B. Every travel guide containing references to Italy recommends that tourists, especially those in search of a romantic atmosphere, visit the"floating", uniquely beautiful

Incorrect.

Although this answer choice corrects the original mistake by removing the word Maybe, it changes the meaning of the original sentence by doing so.

The correct answer choice should correct the original mistake without changing the original meaning.

C. Perhaps every travel guide containing references to Italy recommends that tourists, especially those in search of a romantic atmosphere, visit the uniquely beautiful, "floating"

The word maybe is considered too simple for the GMAT. Thus, whenever you see it in a Sentence Correction question, eliminate all answer choices that include it, and choose answer choices that use perhaps, possibly or probably instead.

Recommend is one of the nine verbs to which the Subjunctive rule applies (if it is followed by that). This means that the next verb after recommends that should be in base form (visit).

D. Perhaps every travel guide that contains references to Italy recommends that tourists, especially those in search of a romantic atmosphere, visit the "floating" city, uniquely beautiful

Incorrect.

Although this answer choice corrects the original mistake by replacing maybe with perhaps, it does not fit into the original sentence. The addition of the second mention of the word city creates the redundant and repetitive phrase visit the "floating" city, uniquely beautiful city of Venice.

E. Perhaps every travel guide that contains references to Italy recommends that tourists, especially those in search of a romantic atmosphere, will visit the "floating", uniquely beautiful

Incorrect.

Although this answer choice corrects the original mistake by replacing maybe with perhaps, it is grammatically incorrect. Recommend is one of the nine verbs to which the Subjunctive rule applies (if it is followed by that). This means that the next verb after recommends that should be in base form. However, will visit is not in base form.

What helps us identify this question as a Subjunctive question as well as identify the mistake is the following Stop Sign:

propose/recommend/require/request/insist/suggest/mandate/ask/demand that

Whenever you come across this Stop Sign, make sure that the following verb is in its base form.

Maybe every travel guide that contains references to Italy recommends that tourists, especially those in search of a romantic atmosphere, visit the "floating", uniquely beautiful city of Venice.

A lot of users have already given some nice explanations. But I'll try and present a new angle.
- the moment you see "recommend" you should be prepared that this is a subjunctive question involving "that" and "base verb"
- the correct way to describe the city is: "uniquely beautiful, floating city of Venice" rather than "floating, uniquely beautiful city of Venice"
