McCombs vs Carlson (Minnesota) vs Texas Mays (MBA + MSA)

I received admits to the MBA program from McCombs with minimal scholarship and Carlson with $50k. It would cost me approx $150k, including living expenses for the entire program. Carlson, UNM would cost me approx. $100k, including living expenses.

Also, the Texas MBA + MS Analytics shared an admit, which would cost $60k (including living expenses).

Profile: 35, Indian Male with an IT background. (International student)
Target: Tech PM roles

What are your recommendations? Would the UT Austin tag help in the long run, especially for an international candidate who would be 37 at graduation?

PS: I waiting for results from Berkeley, Fuqua, and Foster.

In the grand scheme of things if you are borrowing 100K, change to 150K is just as astronomical

McCombs is a great feeder into tech in Austin. They are right there, they have alums, and they have access to employers and as long as you don't mind asking and reaching out to people you will find a job. Mays - I don't know about them almost anything. I think you are trading off a lot for that chunk of scholarship UNLESS you don't want any help from the business school in terms of recruiting and you feel you can score a job on your own. Otherwise, McCombs is a great fit for Tech recruiting.

P.S. About age, it does carry baggage so I hope you can leverage it as an advantage rather than being older than your boss and being the old dog on the team. Are you trying to recruit for more senior roles potentially? If not, how can you avoid being the old dog who can't learn new tricks - either be and appear younger or leverage your wisdom. Having worked in Tech before, you may be an easy recruit for many companies. Last year Amazon was paying $70K Tech PM sign on bonus and finding a job 6 months earlier (e.g. in July vs. January) would more than pay for the difference in scholarships. Let's hope that continues in a year or two... it is tight with tech this year unfortunately but hopefully things will improve.

Couldn't agree with BB more. I'm a Carlson Student and will say Carlson is a great School but it is no match to UT Austin. DM me and we chat more.
