Range is the subject- has must be the verb Only D and E remain. E shifts the personage of the pronoun from second person personal pronoun ‘your’ in the first part to the third person impersonal pronoun - one in the following part of the clause, which is grammatically incorrect. Now we have just D, which is the correct choice.

I am afraid no; because, 'of the graduate programs' is no more than a modifier and a middleman that describes the range ; So the verb will remain singular. In your example also, the subject is only one. And the students and hence it will be wring to say one of the students are.' You must use the verb - is -in this case too; can you give me the full version of the clause where ‘one of the students are’ is appearing?
It is a different matter if you say, ‘one of the students who are”. Then because of the intrusion of the relative pronoun which stands for the plural students, the subject shifts from one to students and hence the verb can be ‘are’

For a clearer picture on this issue, could you please refer to the usage part of the link given below in the freedictionary.com?

Thanks Daagh.

I think you are 92% correct there (Quote from usage : "One of every ten rotors was found defective. Although the plural were is sometimes used in such sentences, an earlier survey found that the singular was preferred by 92 percent of the Usage Panel.") -- Bad joke :P

Thanks again for clearing the concept.

Cheers
Jatin

A. have been developed to fulfil your needs whether you intend to pursue a career in industry, business, government, NGOs or academia, and whatever -Plural
B. has been developed to fulfil your needs if you intend to pursue a career in industry, business, government, NGOs or academia, or whatever - its not conditional statement
C. have been developed to fulfil your needs whether you intend to pursue a career in industry, business, government, NGOs or academia, and whatever -Plural
D. has been developed to fulfil your needs whether you intend to pursue a career in industry, business, government, NGOs or academia, and whatever
E. has been developed to fulfil your needs whether one intends to pursue a career in industry, business, government, NGOs or academia, or whatever

based on non-underline part we can choose D easily.

Hi,
I have a doubt with regards to the usage of 'whatever'

is 'Whatever ' acting as a .. blanked out.. what is the type of the word : 'whatever'?

Don't you guys feel whatever should have been followed by 'may' or 'is' in the OA.

Kindly help..

Menlo University‘s range of graduate programmes have been developed to fulfil your needs whether you intend to pursue a career in industry, business, government, NGOs or academia, and whatever your background.

Range is the subject - singular thus C-D with have been out.

A. have been developed to fulfil your needs whether you intend to pursue a career in industry, business, government, NGOs or academia, and whatever
B. has been developed to fulfil your needs if you intend to pursue a career in industry, business, government, NGOs or academia, or whatever
If must be used to express consequence and here consequence is missing.
C. have been developed to fulfil your needs whether you intend to pursue a career in industry, business, government, NGOs or academia, and whatever

D and E are final contenders.
D. has been developed to fulfil your needs whether you intend to pursue a career in industry, business, government, NGOs or academia, and whatever CORRECT.
E. has been developed to fulfil your needs whether one intends to pursue a career in industry, business, government, NGOs or academia, or whatever

Use of pronoun one is not correct in E.
One is a special pronoun:
In a sentence if one is referring to same subject or person then all other pronouns used in that sentence must be of it's family i.e either one or one's. We can not replace one with you or yours in half of the sentence and keep one or one's in rest of the sentence.

For details you can refer chapter 2 of MGMAT verbal foundation page 34, special note about the pronoun "one".

e.g
INCORRECT : People who wants to become politician should keep one's reputation spotless.
CORRECT : One who wants to become politician should keep one's reputation spotless.

INCORRECT : One must be careful to account for all sources of income on your tax return.
INCORRECT : One must be careful to account for all sources of income on one's tax return.

Thats the only grammatical error in option E and thus option D is correct.

Range of - requires singular verb - So D is the correct choice
