Hello,

I'm just wondering if it is wise to mention that I attempted to start a business throughout late 2009/early 2010. A partner and I did market research, competitive analysis, talked to industry folk, vendors, budgets, financial models, proposals, etc.. but ultimately decided that the competitive and regulatory environment weren't suitable.

Should I mention this on my resume or application?

Hi krazo,

In your essays you can mention the venture and discuss what you learned, but if you did not pursue the business you should not put it on your resume.

Hi,
It would not be worth mentioning - but it also depends what kind of arguments you present. Actually your answer will nullify the premise on all the other entrepreneurs - who start up and succeed in similar environment. Latest example is of Flipkart... no one would have thought that Flipkart kind of model would work in India (inspired from Amazon.com) many imitated before but could not get the success as gala as Flipkart did.
Persistence, innovation and having a good team can help your overcome all competitive and even regulatory impediments... would not recommend you to mention the same.
