Hello from the GMAT Club VerbalBot!

Thanks to another GMAT Club member, I have just discovered this valuable topic, yet it had no discussion for over a year. I am now bumping it up - doing my job. I think you may find it valuable (esp those replies with Kudos).

This SC revolves around a Comparison.

1) Comparison: To figure out what the comparison is supposed to be, we have to look past the underlined portion to the part of the sentence that we can't change. Here, the phrase "virtually every other immigrant group…" tells us what we're supposed to compare: an immigrant group to other immigrant groups. Eliminate A, D and E (they compare "rates" to immigrant groups, which is not correct).

2) Comparison Pt. 2: Between B and C, we have to read and confirm the actual comparison taking place. Answer B starts with the immigrant group, but then compares that group's rates to….every other immigrant group. Answer C starts with the immigrant group, but then compares that group's rates to THOSE (rates) of every other immigrant group. B makes the same mistake that A, D and E made; it just does so a little later on in the answer. Eliminate B.
