Hey
VineetVashi,
Firstly to begin with, you have mentioned that you wish to aim for either Masters in Management (MIM) or Masters in Business Analytics. So let me tell you there is a difference between the two courses, MIM is a general degree whereas MSBA is a specialised degree. Talking of MIM, it will give you a broad knowledge of various facets of business whereas business analytics is related to one single field. When you graduate from a specialised field, your options are limited to that single field whereas for a general degree there are wider options. In that case, it is important to make an informed decision. Go for the specialised course only if you are really sure of it.
Moving on, your profile is pretty decent. To start off with the strong suits in your profile, your CGPA of 8.68 in undergraduate is very impressive and showcases your academic prowess. Also, you have graduated from VIT, Vellore; which being one of the top universities in India would work in your favour as schools tend to pick students from top schools of each country.
Another significant aspect that schools focus on is extracurricular activities as they are looking for a comprehensive profile. Hence, it is essential to shed some light on the endeavours taken up at any clubs, associations, sports, fest, or events you managed or participated in during your undergraduate. Volunteering initiatives, certifications, or internships undertaken during the course of your study would also count towards your extracurricular initiatives. You have a good amount of extra-curricular activities. From being a board member to being a Student Regional Chair, it showcases your leadership responsibilities as well as diverse activities in your profile. Also, it shows your versatility and proactive nature. However, you ought to elaborate on the exposure you received here and what were your major takeaways in order to portray a well-rounded profile.
Moreover, you have mentioned that you have taken up NGO participation, this showcases you are a socially responsible person and can empathise with people well. This will complement your profile further and vouch for your ability of being a great future leader.
Coming to your professional front, your internship with Reliance and two with the local industries sounds pretty interesting, but you need to be mindful of your competitors who will possess experiences from the Big-4 firms. So in order to stand in par with your competitors, highlight why you chose these internships, what projects are done so far, how you have gone beyond the role, any initiatives you took, and any kind of impact created to establish a connection with your goals, and portray the knowledge gained from these experiences. Thus, you should focus on the quality of your work and how you went above and beyond and bloomed in the role. Explaining all this well can be a differentiator for you, and help you stand out in a crowd.
Speaking of your GRE score, 311 is a bit on the lower end, considering the schools that you wish to target, a 320+ is what will work in your favour. For HEC, you require 322+ to be eligible. Thus, a retake is what I recommend as it will widen your scope to get admissions in top-notch schools. That said, practice is key to achieving perfection. I would suggest taking as many mocks as possible and attempting all sections collectively to get a fair idea of where you need to buckle up.
Out of the schools that you are targeting, given the fact that you retake the GRE and land a score of 320+, HEC and LBS would come under the dream category with 50% chance of acceptance whereas ESSEC and Imperial could be clubbed under the competitive category with 60-70% chance of acceptance.
Additionally, here are a few additional schools you can consider:
MIM
DREAM: Duke, Cornell, Insead, LSE
COMPETITIVE: ESCP, WHU, ESADE, IE, FSFM
MSBA
DREAM: UT Austin, Carlson, Duke MQM,
COMPETITIVE: ESSEC, IE, ESADE, UCD
Lastly, while you have a good profile, you need to be aware that you will be facing competition from equally good or even better profiles, which is why, you need to complement your profile with a strong application that includes essays, letter of recommendation, statement of purpose, and resume that highlights all your strong suits, gives reasoning for the weaknesses, and displays how you’d be a good addition to the cohort. As a matter of fact, your application can boost your chances of acceptance by 3x!
