Hey everyone,

I would like to apply to a few European MiM programs next year.
My profile is as follows:

Male, 25, from Germany

GPA: 4.0 (1,5 on the German Scale, Top 10%)

GMAT: 640 (1st attempt)

TOEFL: not taken yet, but aiming for 100+

International experience: none, but really would like to gain some (had no possibility during my bachelors degree)

Work experience:
- 3 years sales (during my bachelor degree; a joint program with a well known, international insurer)
- 3 months Big4 audit
- 2,5 years in consulting (fulltime in a smaller boutique; operations & strategy projects)
- 1 year as a business analyst (insurance)
- I also gained several certificates in project management, programming, soft skills, etc. (most of them on a voluntary basis in addition to my actual work)

Extras:
- I was a martial arts coach during the last 3 years of high school and trained kids, as well as adults
- voluntary financial coach for kids (visited schools and taught the fundamentals of money)
- initiated a small, local project against racism and discrimination

The programs I would like to apply for (from most favorite to least favorite): Mannheim (MMM), WU Vienna (SIMC, MiM or CEMS), SSE (MiM or CEMS)

How would you rate my chances?
I thought about retaking the GMAT, as I scored slightly higher in the official mocks (~660-680). But due to Covid, it is not possible for me to take another offline test, so I would need to try the online-version (which could affect my score negatively).

Are there any others good business schools that could be in my range?

Thanks in advance.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please don't hesitate to ask.

Best regards

Hello argerniki,

I am assuming most of your experience is during your undergrad. If you have less than 2 yrs of experience MIM will work great for you.
What is interesting about your profile is the different kinds of experience you have Sales , Audit, Analysts and also interned with the Big4. This is great as you can actually talk about what worked best for you and what you enjoyed most to create your post MIM plan.

If you could push your score a bit to above 680+ you could also consider ESSEC , HEC or ESMT Berlin too.

You do have a good chance at these schools.

Ezio23
Background and nationality: Indian
Undergrad Information: Bacherlors in Electronics and Communication Engineering, 2018, 85% aggregate,
GMAT/GRE: 325 (163Q, 162V, 4.5)
Work experience and leadership: 2+ years of work experience as a Software Developer, served 4 years as a class rep during UG
Extracurriculars: Taught kids from govt school as a part of CSR initiative, organized events at college, accomplishments in sports.
Anything else: mostly targeting European schools.

Hello Ezio23,

I see a lot of competition this year for the MIM programs. You have a great GRE score. However most MIM programs would look at a little lower experience.

If you want you can look at some specialisation courses too. Do write to the schools and get your profile fitment before you apply.

Since you have a good GRE score, you might want to explore some MBA programs too. The quality of your work experience will be extremely important to showcase your strengths.

Hope this helps.

Hey sirij99,

I’ll start off by saying that you have a pretty decent profile!

You have a strong academic record. A GPA of 7/10 brings to light your academic skills and capabilities. Moreover, getting a dual degree from BITS Pilani further bolsters your profile by adding a good brand name to your profile.

Further, you must be cognizant of the fact that schools seek applicants having a holistic profile . That said, you have undertaken a fair share of extracurricular activities as well. Your involvement in the CSR initiatives showcases your leadership skills and how you can channel your skills for the betterment of the society while being a core member of the student union council and admission’s committee shines light on your excellent leadership and communication skills.

Coming on to your work experience, you have decent work experience as well. Your stint as a Marketing consultant adds relevant work experience to your profile, something that would be appreciated by business schools. One important factor in work experience is the relevancy of a company's brand name. As you’d be facing competition from big4 candidates, you ought to craft a strong application which focuses on the kind of roles you have undertaken, the projects you undertook, and the positive impact you were able to create during your stint. Thus, effectively showcasing your work ex can help you establish in the minds of the admission's committee that you are no less than your competition.

Given your preference for non GMAT/GRE schools. You can apply to schools from competitive and safe categories. The competitive schools are those which have an acceptance rate of 20-30%, this will allow you to have a 50-60% chance of getting into the desired program. You can target the following schools:-
Competitive: Babson, UCL, TCD, UCD, Warwick etc.
Safe: Grenoble, Skema, Kedge etc

Another important factor while applying to non GMAT/GRE schools is to craft a really strong application as it will not only allow you to showcase your aptitude and worthiness for the program but would also allow you to highlight your strength while simultaneously smooth over any flaws in your profile.

As the round 2 of the application process is fast approaching, you might be looking for professional advice on your application strategy. Hence, I’d suggest you to book a free consultation call with our consultants who will help you figure out the best strategy for your application process while providing you with a list of schools tailored to your profile.

Hey argerniki,

You have a pretty great profile,

To begin with, you have an impressive GPA, which showcases your academic prowess, however, while your grades do play an important part, you should highlight your extracurricular activities and other endeavors because AdComs are looking for applicants with holistically developed profiles.

As you have not mentioned a lot of details about your extracurricular activities especially those during or after your undergrad, I’d like to let you know that Extracurricular participation plays an important role in strengthening your applications as B-schools are on the hunt for all-rounder profiles. Hence, it is essential to shed some light on the endeavours you have taken up at any clubs, associations, sports, fest or events you managed or participated in during your undergrad. Thus, you should dig deeper into this aspect and bring out varied skills in your profile or seek to build in this area if the need be.

You have social volunteering endeavours are great value additions as this showcases your ability to take up initiatives, impact others, and empathize with other people. B-schools are looking for applicants that are future leaders and such experiences and qualities most certainly vouch for your abilities and strengthen your application.

As for your GMAT, your overall score is slightly on the lower end and for most of the management courses it is one of the referencing points, so to cover it up make sure you draw attention towards other aspects such as internships and the extracurriculars you took up during your undergraduate or during your work. That said, if you are open to boosting your score further, I would recommend that you retake the GMAT to improve your score by 40-50 points and aim for an overall score of 690 and above to increase your chances at the top business schools.

Talking about your work in sales during your undergrad, it would count as a part-time job and you can leverage it to showcase how you have taken efforts towards financing your own education and how this has taught you important skills and knowledge on self-sufficiency.

As far as your internship and work experience goes, you have a big brand on your CV as well as extensive experience in varied roles which definitely acts in your favour. You ought to explain and highlight the major projects of your work and how these experiences helped to develop and further groom your skills and knowledge. Highlight why you chose these firms, how you have gone beyond the role, any initiatives you took, and any kind of impact created to establish a connection with your goals and portray the knowledge gained from these experiences. Properly highlighting this would differentiate you from candidates with similar work experiences hailing from the big 4 brands. That said, connecting your work experience and your decision to pursue a master’s degree is very important.

So, all in all, you have a pretty holistically developed profile and can be definitely targeting top B-schools!

Moving on to discuss your target program, the Master's in Management program is targeted towards freshers with 0-2 years of work experience. Since you most certainly cross the said limit, I would suggest you mail the school to confirm your eligibility before applying. That said, I cannot really comment on your chances of getting accepted into these programs.

On a side note, given your work experience, you could be targeting either a specialized masters program or an MBA. However, since you have not mentioned your post-masters goals, providing you with any suggestions wouldn’t be accurate. Thus, to give you more guidance on your career opportunities, I would suggest you follow the link below to Book a Free Consulting call to connect with one of our founders to gain more insights into the programs you could be targeting, which schools are feasible for you according to your profile.

My Target Schools for MiM - LBS, HEC, ESSEC, Imperial

Hey VineetVashi,

Firstly to begin with, you have mentioned that you wish to aim for either Masters in Management (MIM) or Masters in Business Analytics. So let me tell you there is a difference between the two courses, MIM is a general degree whereas MSBA is a specialised degree. Talking of MIM, it will give you a broad knowledge of various facets of business whereas business analytics is related to one single field. When you graduate from a specialised field, your options are limited to that single field whereas for a general degree there are wider options. In that case, it is important to make an informed decision. Go for the specialised course only if you are really sure of it.

Moving on, your profile is pretty decent. To start off with the strong suits in your profile, your CGPA of 8.68 in undergraduate is very impressive and showcases your academic prowess. Also, you have graduated from VIT, Vellore; which being one of the top universities in India would work in your favour as schools tend to pick students from top schools of each country.

Another significant aspect that schools focus on is extracurricular activities as they are looking for a comprehensive profile. Hence, it is essential to shed some light on the endeavours taken up at any clubs, associations, sports, fest, or events you managed or participated in during your undergraduate. Volunteering initiatives, certifications, or internships undertaken during the course of your study would also count towards your extracurricular initiatives. You have a good amount of extra-curricular activities. From being a board member to being a Student Regional Chair, it showcases your leadership responsibilities as well as diverse activities in your profile. Also, it shows your versatility and proactive nature. However, you ought to elaborate on the exposure you received here and what were your major takeaways in order to portray a well-rounded profile.

Moreover, you have mentioned that you have taken up NGO participation, this showcases you are a socially responsible person and can empathise with people well. This will complement your profile further and vouch for your ability of being a great future leader.

Coming to your professional front, your internship with Reliance and two with the local industries sounds pretty interesting, but you need to be mindful of your competitors who will possess experiences from the Big-4 firms. So in order to stand in par with your competitors, highlight why you chose these internships, what projects are done so far, how you have gone beyond the role, any initiatives you took, and any kind of impact created to establish a connection with your goals, and portray the knowledge gained from these experiences. Thus, you should focus on the quality of your work and how you went above and beyond and bloomed in the role. Explaining all this well can be a differentiator for you, and help you stand out in a crowd.

Speaking of your GRE score, 311 is a bit on the lower end, considering the schools that you wish to target, a 320+ is what will work in your favour. For HEC, you require 322+ to be eligible. Thus, a retake is what I recommend as it will widen your scope to get admissions in top-notch schools. That said, practice is key to achieving perfection. I would suggest taking as many mocks as possible and attempting all sections collectively to get a fair idea of where you need to buckle up.

Out of the schools that you are targeting, given the fact that you retake the GRE and land a score of 320+, HEC and LBS would come under the dream category with 50% chance of acceptance whereas ESSEC and Imperial could be clubbed under the competitive category with 60-70% chance of acceptance.
Additionally, here are a few additional schools you can consider:

MIM
DREAM: Duke, Cornell, Insead, LSE
COMPETITIVE: ESCP, WHU, ESADE, IE, FSFM

MSBA
DREAM: UT Austin, Carlson, Duke MQM,
COMPETITIVE: ESSEC, IE, ESADE, UCD

Lastly, while you have a good profile, you need to be aware that you will be facing competition from equally good or even better profiles, which is why, you need to complement your profile with a strong application that includes essays, letter of recommendation, statement of purpose, and resume that highlights all your strong suits, gives reasoning for the weaknesses, and displays how you’d be a good addition to the cohort. As a matter of fact, your application can boost your chances of acceptance by 3x!

On this note, if you have any further queries, I would suggest you take up our FREE consultation call where we can help you to figure out the best course of action for you to realize your goals.

Hi Shashank678,

First and foremost you have a very unique background that is hotel management which can be a source of diversity at any school. In additIon to this, your undergraduate score of 75% and a GMAT score of 680 is pretty competitive, thus allowing you to target most of the top-notch B-schools.

When talking about your work experience, you have mentioned that you have 11- month experience with Marriott India as a Management Trainee in Sales and Marketing that shows your transition from hotel management to sales and marketing which is always appreciated by the schools as it showcases your proactiveness and penchant for learning in different domains. Adding to that, you have also mentioned about your 16 weeks internship experience during college which again highlights your early exposure in management field and your inclination towards the same which will further prove beneficial for the MiM program you will be applying for since schools do prefer any hint of relevancy in one’s profile. However, while these experiences are definitely praiseworthy, you will still be facing a lot of competition from applicants who have worked in the big four companies like KPMG, EY, DELOITTE, etc. To set yourself at par with your competitors, you ought to focus on highlighting the different perspectives you gained while working in this field which can act as a differentiating factor in your profile and thus help you stand out from the crowd. Furthermore, you can also talk about the kind of projects you handled, the value you added to these and the major takeaways you were able to gain from the same.

Moving forward, your participation in extracurricular activities is equally important as it will showcase a holistically developed profile which is what the schools are looking for. Needless to say, you definitely possess a decent hold on your extracurricular activities as you have been part of some diverse volunteering activities and also you’ve held important positions in your college society. Your participation in various initiatives taken by NGOs and by the tourism ministry of India definitely showcases how you are socially responsible. Furthermore, you can add more value to your profile by digging deeper into the various endeavors you undertook and how you went above and beyond to excel in the same by elaborating on the kind of events you organized, duties you performed, and most importantly highlight what were your major takeaways.

Here, you have also also talked about the various certifications and courses that you undertook in the domain of networking and marketing which can help showcase your proactiveness and constant thirst for knowledge and learning.

Moreover, when it comes to your question of whether you should be applying for a master’s in management program then let me tell you that you can most certainly go forward with this program. Being a generalized degree, once you complete your MiM, as a short-term goal, you can pursue a career in any field to set a sound foundation for your long-term goal of venturing into your own start-up in the restaurant business or hospitality business. Moreover, given your goals, a generalized degree will help set the foundation for a lucrative career in management.

When it comes to the schools you can target, I would suggest you hedge your bets wisely by targeting a good mix of dream, competitive and safe schools to ensure a fruitful outcome. Now let's discuss the schools that you can target under the MiM program:
Under the dream category( 40-50% chances of acceptance) you can target schools such as LBC, LSE and HEC.
Under the competitive category( 60-70% chances of acceptance) you can target schools such as ESSEC, ESCP, FSFM, IE and ESADE.
Under the safe category( 70-80% chances of acceptance) you can target schools such as GRENOBLE, SKEMA and EDHEC.

Here, you have mentioned that you will be applying for admission post-February which basically means that you will be applying in round 3. Having said that, you need to keep in mind that since you will be applying in round 3, you will also be facing a lot of competition in comparison to the previous rounds. In order to remedy this, you need to provide a very strong application as it would play a huge role in enhancing your chances of getting accepted into your target schools. You would need to highlight your profile USP’s and how you can be a great addition to the school whilst posing the right examples to legitimize your claim. Additionally, you need to ensure that your LORs and Resume, equally depict the strengths of your profile.

Having said that, if you’re looking for expert counseling sessions and services in the form of multiple editing, proofreading, and up-gradation of your application which consists of your Essay, SOP, LOR and resume, you can check out our All in One service that has proven to help over 2500+ applicants get into their target schools!

I just graduated last year from a double degree program in International Business (Major in Finance).
I spent my first 2 years in an Irish university and graduated with 1st class honours
My final two years were spent in a French Business School and I graduated with an average mark of 16.2/20
GMAT score 760 (Q50, V44)
I have completed an 8 month internship in a French Bank in Luxembourg.
I have further international experience as I have spent time working in both Canada and in the United States.
I am aware that my age is considerably above the average age of students but I am hoping that wont matter too much as I changed my undergrad after 1 year and also took a gap year before I started college.
Extracurricular activities: I was an active member of some clubs and societies in college but no leadership positions really. I tried to launch a company as part of my final year of college but it failed to launch because of Covid-19.
I'm really curious to know if I have a good chance to get in any of the above-mentioned schools, thank you for your time!

Hey there,
You have a pretty good profile.

To begin with, your undergraduate GPA showcases your academic prowess which coupled with your academic background in the field of International Business works in your favour as it showcases a strong foundation in the field of business. The Dual Degrees program with semesters at Ireland and France adds to your international experiences and showcases your broadened perspective and adaptability. As for your GMAT, an overall score of 760 is outstanding and would bolster the AdComs confidence in your academic abilities and improve your acceptance chances. However, while your grades do play an important part, your extracurricular activities and other endeavours matter are equally important.

As you haven’t mentioned many details about your extracurricular activities, I’d like to let you know that Extracurricular participations play an important role in strengthening your applications as B-schools are on the hunt for all-rounder profiles. That said, it is essential to shed some light on the endeavours you’ve taken up at the clubs and associations you managed or participated in. Showcasing how you took the initiative and created impacts at these places would add weightage to your application. Thus, you should dig deeper into this aspect and bring out varied skills in your profile. Furthermore, you could take up Volunteering initiatives with NGOs or certifications in management like 6 Sigma to build in this area if the need be.

Talking about your entrepreneurial idea, while it did not pan out due to the pandemic, it however still showcases your ability to take the initiative and create an impact. Since any entrepreneurial endeavour is accompanied by a lot of allied activities, thus, you should dig deeper into this aspect and bring out varied skills in your profile such as your role of leading teams or strategizing plans to build the venture. This could be perceived as a great value addition to the schools.
As for your internship and work experience, you would need to provide more details about the same to allow me to evaluate it better. That said, since you are applying for the MiM program your overall work experience should be less than 2 years, since most top B-schools have a stringent 2-year criteria for their MiM programs. Furthermore, you ought to explain and highlight the major projects of your work and how these experiences helped to develop and further groom your skills and knowledge. Highlight why you chose these firms, how you have gone beyond the role, any initiatives you took and any kind of impact created to establish a connection with your goals and portray the knowledge gained from these experiences. Properly highlighting this would allow you to stand at par with candidates with work experience from big 4 brands. That said, connecting your work experience and your decision to pursue a masters is very important.

Of the schools you are targeting, St. Gallen comes under the ultra dream category, since it has a very stringent acceptance rate and admits candidates with extremely strong profiles. Furthermore, as a matter of fact, to maintain the diversity of its cohort it only admits 2 candidates from each country, which would convert your chance of acceptance to be very bleak. For the rest, LBS and INSEAD come under the dream category while IESE would fall under the competitive category. Looking at your profile you have a 50% chance of getting admitted to the schools in the dream category and a 70% chance of getting admitted in the schools in the competitive category.

Since dream schools have a very stringent acceptance rate of 12-15%. Hence, it is always better to hedge your bets wisely and target at least 6-8 schools that are a mix of dream and competitive schools. To help you understand better, I’ve suggested a few schools that you could be targeting according to the different categories.

Dream : HEC ,LSE, Duke, Cornell
Competitive : ESCP, ESSEC, ESADE, FSFM, IE

All said and done, while you have a good profile, there will be thousands of applicants out there with similarly great profiles, which is why your application would play a huge role in enhancing your chances of getting accepted into your target schools. You would need to highlight your profile USP’s and how you can be a great addition to the school whilst posing the right examples to legitimize your claim. Additionally, you need to ensure that your LORs and Resume, equally depict the strengths of your profile since your application( SOP, ESSAY, LOR & RESUME ) will hold a 30% value in the selection procedure.

On this note, if you are looking to target the top B-schools and want to prepare a strong application that would increase your chances by at least 3 times, you can follow the link below to Book a Free Consulting call to connect with one of our founders to gain in-depth knowledge of the application process and chalk out a winning strategy.

Hey Ezio23,
I’ll start off by saying that you have a pretty decent profile!

Starting off with your academics, You have a quite strong academic background. A percentage of 85% in undergrad definitely showcases your academic prowess and high academic capabilities.

Moreover, your GRE score of 325 is also quite competitive and further authenticates your academic capabilities and establishes you as a strong candidate for the program. Your Quant score is quite decent as well and hence proves that you have good analytical skills, something that would definitely be appreciated by the admission committee.

Coming on to your work experience, you have 2+years of work experience as a Software developer. You haven’t mentioned the company name but in case it’s not a global brand, you would be required to focus on the kind of roles you have undertaken, the projects you undertook, and the positive impact you were able to create during your stint. Thus, effectively showcasing your work ex can help you establish in the minds of the admission's committee that you are no less than a Big 4 candidate.

Moreover, since you come from an engineering background, you would need to showcase your business acumen in your application to be considered for admission into the MiM program. For instance, you would need to highlight any consulting, financial or marketing exposure you have had or work experiences where you led teams or facilitated events while stressing on your leadership and communication skills. All of these points would be useful in displaying your business acumen.

Further, you must be cognizant of the fact that schools seek applicants having a holistic profile . Hence, accounting for the same, your involvement in the CSR initiatives showcases your leadership skills and how you can channel your skills for the betterment of the society. Organizing events during college highlight your project management as well as communication skills. Whereas involvement in sports displays your determination and fighting spirit. All in all, talking about the positive impact you created with your endeavors will definitely showcase you as a well-rounded candidate.

Coming to the schools you can be targeting, well to begin with, while applying to Business schools, it is a wise strategy to hedge your bets wisely and apply to a mixed bunch of schools from the Dream, competitive and safe category. As you are more inclined towards schools in Europe, you may target these schools:-
Dream: HEC Paris, LSE, INSEAD
Competitive: ESSEC, ESADE, ESCP
Safe: Skema, Grenoble, EDHEC, Kedge.

As you are still in the early stages of your application process, you might be looking for professional advice on your application strategy. Hence, I’d suggest you to book a free consultation call with our consultants who will help you figure out the best strategy for your application process while providing you with a list of schools tailored to your profile.

Hello hello, I hope everyone here is having a great day or night, wherever you are!

I would like to ask for a profile evaluation.

I'm applying to: CEMS MIM in SSE (Stockholm) and Bocconi, considering Vlerick, Maastricht and Aalto, but I'm open to any suggestions

Nationality and age: Polish, but living in Norway 3 years now, 24 years old
Academic background: One of the biggest Norwegian universities; Social sciences, Arctic Tourism to be more more specific (however, a big chunk of my studies is related to business and management); serving as the class president during my entire bachelor studies, GPA in the top of the class
Languages: Fluent English (Toefl 111/120), native Polish, intermediate Norwegian
GMAT: 700, with AWA 6.0
Work Experience: 2 years working as a manager at an international tourist site, responsible for recruiting and managing team of guides; international guide for another company, working with people from all over the world
Other Experience: Participation in one international business project (developing a plan for foreign market expansion), some local-scale projects (project management, organizing funding etc.)

I know that my academic background is rather unorthodox, but I hope my international experience and decent GMAT score can stack the odds in my favor.

Thank you in advance and stay safe!

Hi Laospook,

First and foremost you have mentioned here that you are Polish but you are living in Norway which points towards your international exposure that in a way showcases your adaptability and broadened perspective. Furthermore, you have also mentioned your undergraduate academic background in the field of social sciences and arctic tourism with business and management holding the major portion of the curriculum. This unique blend of your academic course would definitely add diversity to the cohort and also make you stand out in the crowd. In addition to this, your undergraduate GPA stands at the top of the class which is pretty impressive and the fact that you have completed your degree from one of the top Norwegian universities will definitely give an edge to your profile. Your Toefl score of 111/120 and GMAT score of 700 is pretty competitive which will surely work in your favour as it will allow you to target most of the top-notch B-schools.

Here you have not mentioned any details regarding your extracurricular activities or participation that hold equal importance as schools are looking for a holistically developed profile. When it comes to depicting your extracurricular activities, you should always focus on highlighting how you went above and beyond in your endeavours and how you will be a great value addition to the school. To give you a brief idea of how to go about with this, you can maybe talk about the clubs and associations you were involved in, the teams you led, certifications you undertook, and most importantly your volunteering activities along with NGOs. This part of your profile will basically highlight your soft skills paired with the socially responsible aspect of your personality which can ultimately vouch for your ability to be a great future leader.

Furthermore, you have mentioned your work experience which has spanned over 2 years wherein you have worked on varied amounts of projects under an international tourist site with progressive roles. While these experiences are definitely praiseworthy, you will still be facing a lot of competition, firstly due to the CEMS MiM program you are targeting which is a very popular program and secondly you will face competition from applicants who have worked in the big four companies like KPMG, EY, DELOITTE, etc. To set yourself at par with your competitors, you can focus on highlighting the kind of projects you handled, the value you added to these projects and the major takeaways you were able to gain from the same.

Most importantly, since you are targeting for the CEMS MiM program which is mostly designed for people with 0-2 years of work experience. Thus, I would suggest you drop in a mail at the school to confirm your eligibility since you already have 2 years of work experience but there is no clear data on which month exactly it falls under.

Coming to the schools you are targeting, all belong under the competitive school category where you have a 70% chance of acceptance.
All in all, you need to pay extra attention to your application which consists of your Essay, Lor and Resume as they carry 30% of an impact on your chances of bagging an admit. Furthermore, you should also target a good mix of 6 to 8 schools in order to hedge your bets wisely.

That being said, since most of the details are not mentioned in your profile, it will be very difficult for me to judge and give you the accurate suggestion, so what you could do is take up our Free profile evaluation that will give better clarity and answer on where exactly you stand among the competition and you will also receive personalised suggestions on the schools that you can target based on your profile compatibility and interests.

Hello everybody, could you please evaluate my profile for the best Business Schools in France (HEC,ESCP, ESSEC, EDHEC), MiM Program or Msc if it's doable.

21-year old man from Tunisia studying in France.
I'm graduating this year my Bachelor in Business management in one a school well ranked for Bachelor (6th in 2018) and ranked 20th for masters in France (BSB) with a GPA of 4.00 (translated in English/American system, 16/20 in the French system, top 10%)

GMAT score 650 (V34,Q46) 73 Percentile

I have had 3 internships ,of 4 months each, two of which in marketing project management. Each internship was in a different country ( France, Belgium, Tunisia) but in small marketing agencies. I've also been working as a freelancer in the field of digital marketing and SEO for the past 2 years and have lunched a startup back when I was 16 that was shut down 2 years later, I've also participated in different workshops and events thanks to the startup and I had an interview in a national radio and participated as a speaker in a BIL Talk event, giving a speech in front of 2000 people. I've also been accepted to attend an exchange semester at NTU Signapore during this semester, however the exchange was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Extracurricular activities: I have been playing in the Tunisian national baseball team under 12 and participated in several competitions including the world's children baseball fair in Tokyo in 2010. I'm also the vice president of digital communication at a local chess club in Burgundy France. I'm also bilingual in French and English and also speak German, Arabic and Tunisian.

in the last official mock tests I took I scored 670, 660, 660 and 700 and thus was aiming for HEC, ESSEC and ESCP, however with just 650 and knowing that it's very diffuclt for me to retake it anytime soon to several reasons, do you think I stand a chance for HEC, ESSEC, ESCP or Sciences Po?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hey YuBen,

I would firstly like to say that you have a pretty decent profile.

Starting with your academics, you have a very strong academic background. A GPA of perfect 4 showcases your excellent academic skills and capabilities. Moreover, completing your Bachelors in the field of Business Management highlights your strong passion for the field as well as clarity of goals.

Coming onto your work experience, you have relevant work experience of working in 3 different internships in three countries. Working in three different countries highlights your ability to conform and adapt in multicultural environments and foreign settings and adds international perspective and experience to your profile. This is most certainly a great addition to your profile. However, one important aspect that you need to be aware of is the absence of big brand names in your profile. As you’d be facing competitions from candidates from big4 companies, it is imperative that you utilize your application documents to focus on the kind of roles you have undertaken, the projects you undertook, and the positive impact you were able to create during your stint. Thus, effectively showcasing your work ex can help you establish in the minds of the admission's committee that you are no less than a Big 4 candidate.

You have undertaken a decent share of extracurricular activities as well. Being a vice president of the local chess club in France highlights your leadership skills. Moreover, founding and running a start-up at the age of 16 highlights your entrepreneurial spirit and vigour, the most coveted traits b-schools are on the hunt for. Your involvement in sports, even though an impressive feat, would not hold much importance here as they were done way back in your childhood and don’t hold much relevance now.

In accordance with your school choices, your GMAT score is definitely on the lower end. If you wish to target HEC, you need a score of at least 710 in your GMAT. Hence, a retake would definitely be required in this instance. Scoring at least 690 in your GMAT would open the doors to various top business schools and would increase your chances of acceptance.

Given your profile ESSEC and ESCP fall into the dream category, which means that you stand a 40-50% chance of acceptance in these schools. According to your preference towards french schools, you may also target the following schools with your current GMAT score:

Dream: INSEAD
Competitive: EDHEC
Safe: Kedge, Grenoble, Skema

Lastly, while you have a good profile, you need to be aware that you will be facing competition from equally good or even better profiles, which is why, you need to complement your profile with a strong application that includes essays, letter of recommendation, statement of purpose, and resume that highlights all your strong suits, gives reasoning for the weaknesses, and displays how you’d be a good addition to the cohort. As a matter of fact, your application can boost your chances of acceptance by 3x!

As you are still in the early stages of your application process, you might be looking for professional advice on your application strategy. Hence, I’d suggest you to book a FREE consultation call with our consultants who will help you figure out the best strategy for your application with your existing GMAT score of 650.

Hi everyone!

Please evaluate my profile.

I would like to apply to Warwick MiM (Business with consulting) program 2021.
My profile is as follows:

Male, 23, from India

GPA: 3.0

IELTS: Not taken yet. (Getting an 8/9 in the mock tests)

International experience: None

Work experience:
- 1.5 years Experience as an HSE engineer in Reliance. Started as an engineer and got a manager position after a year.

Extras:
- I volunteered for an NGO teaching blind kids in school.
- Part of the drama club in college.

I am looking to switch from an HSE role to the consulting domain. I find the Warwick course to be a perfect match with my requirements. Just wanted advice on my chances of getting in.

P.S. I know a great GMAT score will boost my chances but is it really necessary for an MiM course? I am short on time and a little direction would help me in this regard.

Greetings reader
My current GRE score is 329
Undergrad GPA (7.3 / 10) in B.Tech Electronics and Communication from Medicaps University , Indore , India
I have successfully completed two internships as a techincal intern and program manager with 1 research publication and 1 article in a National Level Competition..
1-2 years of Work - ex at Capgemini
I've been a interschool badminton player with runner up achievements and chairman for rotaract international for literature domain plus some volunteering for NGO and MUN .
What are my chances of getting admitted to MIM programs in Europe (HEC , ESSEC , ESCP , LBS) ?

Hi Meetsaluja14,

Looking at your profile, you seem to come across as an all-rounder. To begin with, your CGPA of 7.3 is pretty average but you can easily overshadow this by drawing attention to your GRE score of 329 which is exceptionally good and would allow you to target all the top-notch B-schools. Moreover, you can pose the right alibi to justify your CGPA by talking about how you were more inclined towards grooming your profile holistically through extracurricular activities.

Talking about your extracurricular activities, you have mentioned that you have held positions of responsibility in the Rotaract club, you also did some volunteering work for NGOs and you were involved in sports activities. This part of your profile will basically highlight your soft skills paired with the socially responsible aspect of your personality which can ultimately vouch for your ability to be a great future leader. When it comes to depicting your extracurricular activities, you should always focus on highlighting how you went above and beyond in your endeavours and how you will be a great value addition to the school.

As for the internships, you have mentioned that you have completed two internships as a technical intern and as a program manager and you also have 1-2 years of work experience in Capgemini. While these endeavours seem impressive, you will still be facing a lot of competition from applicants who have worked in the big four companies like KPMG, EY, DELOITTE, etc. To set yourself at par with your competitors, you can focus on highlighting the kind of projects you handled, the value you added to these projects and the major takeaways you were able to gain from the same.

Additionally, you can also take up some management certifications since you are from a technical background transitioning into the business and management domain. Furthermore, you can also take up an internship in the field you want to build your career in. Most importantly, you should try to grab hold of an internship position in one of the big four companies as it will work in your favour and also strengthen your application.

Now talking about the schools you are targeting; HEC and LBS come under the dream category (where your chances of acceptance are 50%) while ESSEC AND ESCP come under the competitive category (where your chances of acceptance are 70%). While your choices are well laid, you ought to target at least 6-8 B-schools to secure your chances of bagging an admit.

On this note, here are a few schools you could additionally be looking at:

Dream: Insead, LSE
Competitive: IE, ESADE, EDHEC, FSFM

All said and done, while you have a good profile, there will be thousands of applicants out there with similarly great profiles, which is why your application would play a huge role in enhancing your chances of getting accepted into your target schools. You would need to highlight your profile USP’s and how you can be a great addition to the school whilst posing the right examples to legitimize your claim. Additionally, you need to ensure that your LORs and Resume, equally depict the strengths of your profile since your application( SOP, ESSAY, LOR & RESUME ) will hold a 30% value in the selection procedure.
