Re: MIT LGO fellow applicant for LGO program starting in 2010 [#permalink]
is there any international applicant (non US citizen and no green card) who got an interview call?

just curious to know as it seems that only citizens have got a call so far!

What is ISB?

Good point though, is InterviewFest mainly for people that will go to the US for the interview or is it a worldwide event? Has anyone applying to LGO outside the US gotten the invitation?

Re: MIT LGO fellow applicant for LGO program starting in 2010 [#permalink]
Just adding a thought. During the Ambassador Day they were very specific in stating that acceptance of international students is very limited (I think around 3-5 per year), which is disappointing. They argue that this is because of the current Visa situation and the internships in the companies being an issue. I don't know how is this possible being that the leading programs accept a high (30-40%?) percentage of international students, including Sloan. They mentioned that LGO is international as they accept residents with different backgrounds. Odd to hear MIT say that "international" means local with foreign parents. And disappointing. In these times when nothing is just national (US or anywhere else) I wonder how much international exposure do the LGO students get, other than the one week trip. Real international exposure I mean.

Anyway, even if they have not yet sent the invitation to international applicants, most probably 5 people will get them, tops. Kudos to them!!!

The Boston Cambridge Marriott is within walking distance to Sloan and right at the Kendall Street T station, so you can easily get there directly from the airport. They currently have rooms for $103/night during InterviewFest. I might end up staying with a friend, but booked a room there (it's refundable) as a backup.

I have a bit of an absurd question - are they sending interview invites via e mail or regular mail?
@ LGOGirl - congrats: are you based here in the US (even though you are international)?

Great post!

My profile:

27/male/Lima, Peru (no green card)
710 - 4 yrs of exp in Supply Chain

As someone that posted before, I have already been accepted in the MMM class at Kellogg in R1, so i´m facing the LGO process more relaxed as I already have a great program with me.

Being an international, I know that my options at LGO are very limited. I don't believe that the reason for why they don't accept too much internationals has anything to do with visas. It's MIT. I believe it has more to do with the reason of the program. An LGO student told me the story: the former LFM program was born as a response to the manufacturing problems of the US in the 80's.

At that time, many companies started producing in asian countries, ad US factories started to shut down. So MIT and some major manufacturing companies in the US built the program to produce leaders in manufacturing with knowledge in management. Obviously they would not take as a student an Indian or Chinese that after the program would go back to his homecountry and contribute to take jobs away from the US. I guess this orientation is changing slightly this last years to make it more global, but it doesn't depend of MIT, the companies play a big role here.

Do you know when are people told if they are dinged from LGO and passed to Sloan R2?

@everyone: is the regular MBA at Sloan superior than the MMM from Kellogg? (this is my GREAT doubt)

@LGOgirl: where are you from?

For those who have called and scheduled the interview:

1) Did you get any email confirmation from the LGO?
2) Did you get any information on your interviewer?

When I called I tried to be as quick as I can in scheduling as I know Vicki must have been extremely busy yesterday.

ditto thx for hotel info. i am interviewing on monday. the hotel rate of 103/night seems to only be valid if you combine it with a stay on friday or sat nights. otherwise it jumps to 199/night.

stats: gre 1500, 6 years WE in consumer electronics ops & product design, gpa 3.5/4 from a state school.

Hi fellow applicants,

unfortunatly I haven't received an interview invite yet. A few lines on my profile:

- Work experience: 3 years in leading management consulting firm (many lean and manufacturing projects)
- Studied automotive engineering in Germany (GPA 3.7)
- GMAT 730(q49, v40)

I believe the chances of getting in are very low for international applicants. The program is built on sponsorship from mainly American firms, who are trying to reccruit out of the program. International applicants are not as "employable" as Americans. Not giving up the hope yet though...

Well done to those who have received the interview invite! -- and good luck to those still waiting!

international applicants,

it may sound bitter but we dont have any chance.....i think in future international applicants should give a careful attention to below data and then they should decide whehter to apply for LGO or not

analysis below:

there are only 3 international candidates in class of 2011! based upon our forum there is one technical woman from middle east and one guy from south america...both of them have been called for an interview......in short 1 or 2 seats might be still available.....but only 10 memebers have joined this forum and considering that around 200 applicants apply every year we can say that they will easily find 2/3 seats...........for any year we can assume that there will be 2/3 technical international women. obviously those would get preference above males..............

what du u think?

I assumed that they would automatically throw you into Sloan Round 2 (and could've sworn I saw something to that effect), but thats something you should probably email the school about to double check!

They say rejected LGO apps are considered for Sloan round 2. I don't think you'll be able to verify your r2 candidacy until after the LGO decision date though. Maybe you can call them, ask and see if they slip up! I doubt they will.

IMHO, going for regular sloan R2 this year will be very difficult by looking at the number of R1 applicants who were deferred until R2. If you are wait-listed by the LGO, you have the choice to stay on LGO wait-list or to be considered for Sloan R2. If you are dinged outright, then I guess you go straight to Sloan R2.
