I will say A.

B) I think the word "other" is needed and option B omits this
C) "the increase ... have been responsible" - Incorrect verb
D) Again, the word "other is omitted.
E) Again, incorrect verb.

it reduces redundancies in the statement. "has been responsible for" = caused.

Not 100% sure... :)
