One of the biggest changes is that 47Q will no longer get you 80% in quant. You now need a 48Q if you want to exceed the 80 benchmark.

48Q - 84%
47Q - 78% or so

Also, 750 is no longer 99%
760-800 is 99%

That dropoff is amazing considering that 51 is 99th percentile (and generally considered to be a "perfect" Q section).

Wow, that's harsh.

FWIW I don't even pay attention to the new percentiles. I haven't ordered any new score reports for myself so I report the percentiles I got for my exam in Dec 2007.

I think that people need to understand that the percentile that you receive the day you took the test is your percentile forever. I scored a 750 (98th percentile) but I know that as time goes on, a 750 will turn into a 97th percentile.......96th.....etc.

This is the reason that schools ask for your percentile. Because a 750 in 2004 and a 750 in 2008 are two very different scores.

Tarmac,

By the way, I also took the test last December and I remember referencing you posts on gmatclub very frequently. I am happy that you got such an awesome score and look forward to apply with you this season.

Thanks! I thought I had it made in the shade. Unfortunately, I have learned over this application process that a 770 probably helps very little over a 710 :) Good luck this season.
