Most musicians in their early years seek training in classical music to build their expertise of musical elements. However, a study shows that when a musician starts receiving widespread acclaim as a pop artist, he or she turns a back to continuing classical music. This supports the theory that after tasting success in popular music, a musician has little incentive for classical music.

In the argument given, the portion in boldface plays which of the following roles?

A- It is the main conclusion of the argument.

B- It provides evidence in support of the conclusion that the argument seeks to establish.

C- It provides the content of a possible explanation that the argument seeks to gain support for.

D- It is a hypothesis that the argument is based upon.

E- It provides the content of a hypothesis that the argument seeks to prove.

I would request an expert's analysis on this question. Is this a good quality question?

Actually, this question can easily be done by using POE tool:

Firstly we can eliminate D and E as these options are totally irrelevant. Also, B can be eliminated as the boldface is not providing any evidence
Between A and C, A can be eliminated as the boldface is not a conclusion of the argument as can be observed from the phrase "This supports the theory " in the main argument.

I thought the bold face was the conclusion of the argument, can someone please explain the reasoning behind the OA?
And what is the source for this question?

Most musicians in their early years seek training in classical music to build their expertise of musical elements. However, a study shows that when a musician starts receiving widespread acclaim as a pop artist, he or she turns a back to continuing classical music. This supports the theory that after tasting success in popular music, a musician has little incentive for classical music.

In the argument given, the portion in boldface plays which of the following roles?

A- It is the main conclusion of the argument. Do the "why" test to determine if it's a conclusion. A conclusion should be able to answer the question "why". Why does a musician have little incentive for classical music after tasting success in popular music? We don't know. Eliminate.
B- It provides evidence in support of the conclusion that the argument seeks to establish. Not an evidence because it's not a fact. The text even mentions that it's a theory.
C- It provides the content of a possible explanation that the argument seeks to gain support for. CORRECT. It provides a possible explanation for the reason a musician turns his or her back to continuing classical music.
D- It is a hypothesis that the argument is based upon. The argument is not based on the boldface sentence.
E- It provides the content of a hypothesis that the argument seeks to prove. The argument is not trying to prove the boldface sentence.

First thing I'd do here is eliminate B, D, and E. Then do the "why" test and eliminate A.

EDIT: Ps. I'm not an expert.
