Not sure about the official explanation but here's my take on the solution. It's a POE question - none of the choices are 'perfect' and the "lesser of the evils" is the correct choice. Let's examine the choices :-

A) I think you need a coordinating conjunction to join two independent clauses: 'skiers can choose among hard rock, soft pop, and “beautiful musicâ€
