Re: Type O Blood [#permalink]
Quote:
Most of the whole blood donated for transfusion is type O, which is compatible with all blood types. Type O is especially important in emergencies which don't allow time for typing the victim's blood, but for this reason it is usually in short supply.
Given the above, which of the following must be true?

A) Most of the population has type O blood.

B) Transfusions of any but type O blood necessitates prior typing of the recipients blood.

C) Only type O blood requires too much time for typing in emergencies.

D) Type O blood is especially useful because it is the same type as most people's blood.

E) Supplies of type O blood are always too low to meet emergencies.

A) Most of the population has type O blood. Cannot assume this.

B) Transfusions of any but type O blood necessitates prior typing of the recipients blood.In Emergency, time is limited. Hence, demand would be high for blood type which can be given very quickly.

C) Only type O blood requires too much time for typing in emergencies. Contradictory

D) Type O blood is especially useful because it is the same type as most people's blood. Assumption out of scope

E) Supplies of type O blood are always too low to meet emergencies. Assumption of of Scope

So, choice is B.

I would have clicked option D. Since I believe income group and the magnitude of the health should not be a reason behind bad health service..

Izvos.... D says Type O blood is especially useful because it is the same type as most people's blood.

but this information is not given in the passage... it only says O is compatible with other groups... hence the best answer is B

im curious to know why u think the answer is D (maybe thats a line of thought i havent focussed on) can u pls elucidate?

It will help all of us in improving our chances of getting right on Cr's

infer, mbt:
[premise] most bdonated is 0, which is "compatible" to all…
[premise] 0 key in er w/o time to id btype…
[conclusion] so its short sup;

(A) never stated;
(C) nope, mybe another type requires even more time!
(D) nope, 0 is "compatible", not the same as most people's blood;
(E) never stated;

Answer (B): yes, except for 0, any other btype needs prior typg or identifying.
