Hello everyone,

I’m Italian. After completing an undergrad degree in Business and Economics i’m pursuing a master’s degree in Management and Business Strategy, both at the University of Verona. I’ve been working at a Big 4 accounting firm for a year now and i’m looking for a MSc in Finance in a top european business school to pivot into the financial services Industry/Fintech/IB.

UNDERGRAD INFO:
- BSc in Business and Economics at the University of Verona in Italy, GPA 3.35
- Erasmus semester at Universidad de Valencia, Spain, GPA 4.0
- Dissertation paper on CSR and corporate sustainability tratings

- Before university I got an high school diploma in Administration, Finance and Marketing for International Business with full marks, 4.0 GPA and top 5% within Italian students. Could I add that to a business school application?

MSc INFO:
- MSc in Management and Business Strategy, expected GPA 3.4 (last exam in a couple of weeks)
- Dissertation on the ESG strategy of KPMG

GMAT AND LANGUAGE CERTIFICATION:
I’m looking forward to take the GMAT and a recognized English certification in 2023 and apply in 2024/2025.

WORK EXPERIENCE
- Undergrad Internship in accounting at DHL Group, 5 months
- Worked in the family business in the wood industry, managed the relationships with italian and spanish clients (It’s a Russian firm), 1.5 years
- Staff accountant at KPMG Italy (6 months internship + full time, one year now) in Accounting Services

OTHER
- My native languages are Italian and Russian and I’m fluent in English and Spanish.
I also studied German for 8 years before university, so I have a basic level of knowledge of the language

- My only extracurricular activity has been soccer. I played at a junior professional level for several years and now I play for a local team where i’m also involved in promoting sport in my local community through different social activities and events.

My target bs is ESADE, as I would like to work in Spain after the Master, but I would consider other similar programmes within Europen that in your opinion could match with my profile.

What do you think about my profile? Would I have a chance to get into ESADE’s Msc with a good GMAT score?

Firstly I would like to mention you have done your research and have selected pretty good universities for yourself.
I don't think you need any school recommendations.

What I would like to address here is your profile.
MFin is a great course and competitive as well.
You will be evaluated in a number of parameters. Let me break it down for you.

Education: You mentioned that you are a recent graduate where you got a pretty good GPA. So you are golden here.

GMAT: GMAT is one of the key parameters on which you will be evaluated, as you mentioned you are planning to take the GMAT and aim to score 710-720. That should be sufficient keeping into consideration your GPA

Extracurricular activities: your extracurriculars are pretty decent. It definitely showcases your leadership and hard-working skills.
I would recommend you to do volunteering as well, as it will shine in your application.

Work Experience: In almost all MFin schools, work experience is mandatory, preferably in finance.
You might lag points here as you have less than a year's worth of experience.
But with your GPA and GMAT scores, it can easily be compensated for.

Your school choices are pretty good.
I would suggest you target European schools as there getting a work visa is pretty easy

Although this shouldn’t stop you from applying to other countries such as Canada or UK or Singapore.. They've got pretty good MFin courses as well.
The more, the merrier

Let me start by saying that you have a decent profile. A 3.35 GPA in bachelors has kept you on an edge from being a high achiever. But it has been compensated with your excellent GPA Score in your masters.
Coming towards your work experience, a year-long work experience in a Big 4 firm will also compensate for your low bachelors’ GPA. Since you have worked in the family business in the wood industry, managed the relationships with Italian and Spanish clients, you are well-skilled in communications, people-management and being multilingual is an added advantage.
The next aspect in your profile i.e your extracurricullars is somewhat decent. Although you have played Soccer for several years, being restricted to the local level weighs it down. If you highlight the fact that you were actively participating in promoting sports in your local community through different social activities and events, then you can make a point.
Now, since you said you are planning to give GMAT, I suggest prepare for it very very nicely and don’t leave any stone unturned. You need to score a minimum of 700 in GMAT to be able to even consider ESADE an option for your profile.
I feel an otherwise nice profile can go missing in the crowd, if the right elements are not highlighted. Similarly, an average or decent profile can be made to shine by highlighting the key aspects. In your case, that could be your GMAT score and currently is your work experience.
The skills that you gained, the impact that you had, the leadership you showed, all of this combined can make your profile look worthy enough of an admit from Esade Business School. I know it can seem a bit overwhelming but trust me, if you keep at it with patience, you can get your dream admit.

I must say you have a pretty decent profile. The universities you chose are great and it’s very common to get confused during school selection, let me help you make this decision.
As you mentioned you want to pursue MFin and you got 325 on GRE that’s a great score and will definitely help your application.
Plus your GPA is also good enough.
I also see you have work experience as an analyst, so you have experience in the Finance field, that’s good that’s something the admission committee looks for in their candidates.

But remember you will be competing with hundreds of applicants, some with more experience than you so you will need to explain why you should be in their program and how you can benefit from the same etc in your essay and SOP.

Mention your extracurriculars as well showcasing your leadership or hardworking skills.
Or you can mention your other experience such as volunteering, freelancing, starting an initiative etc.

You being a CFA L2 candidate definitely vouches for how much you want to pursue a career in finance.
You should definitely apply to Cambridge and Imperial.

I am gonna suggest a few schools on basis of dream(chances of getting in 40%-50%) and competitive (chances of getting in 60%-70%)

Dream - LBS, LSE, Vanderbilt, MIT, Yale
Competitive - ESSEC , USC
Safe - EDHEC (high chances of getting in)

But don’t worry your GPA and GMAT are not bad, with a strong profile and resume you can definitely get into your dream school.

You have a great profile as you listed that you have completed your graduation from top university of Indonesia with a decent GPA Score. But as I can see that your GMAT Score is not that good. So I recommend you to go a reattempt and try to score 740+ to get a admission in you dream universities.

You also have done extracurricular activities that is a plus point in your application that will help you in your admission process.

For NUS you do not require to have work experience for admission into the programme. Applicants with some postgraduate work experience like you are also welcome to apply. Also, GMAT/GRE score is not mandatory but a good GMAT/GRE score will strengthen your application. Generally, a score of 700 out of 800 for the GMAT, or the GMAT equivalent in GRE is expected.
For RSM and Edinburgh you need minimum 600 or may not need Gmat score respectively. But your good GMAT score might add a plus point in your application.
In RSM, Relevant work experience is not required but may increase your chances of acceptance. Same as in Edinburgh, work experience is not required but may increase your chances of acceptance
As you also have a chance in your dream school you definitely have a chance to get an admit from your safe schools.

I must say you have a pretty good profile. As you are going with a MSC Finance which is a great program to pursue your masters in and congratulations for getting an interview offer from NUS in MSC in Finance.

NUS, or Natioanl University of Singapore is a top ranked university and getting an admit from prestigious university is a great achievement.

You also has done multiple freelancing which is very interesting. As you also mentioned it will be good if you give a reattempt of your GMAT. 690 is not a bad score but is still not a very good score. It will be great if target 700+ in your GMAT so that it can give a good weightage to your application.
Academically, you have a pretty good GPA, which showcases your academic prowess. Speaking of your GMAT score of 690, This is not a bad score but at the same time it is not a pretty good score. It is great as you are going to re-attempt your GMAT. Try to score 700+. For ESSEC it’s not compulsory that you have must have a good GMAT Score. ESSEC takes your whole profile into consideration. If you are very good in one area it might compensate for a weakness in another area. Therefore, a good GMAT Score might be an advantage but no guarantee to get into the program as well.

Same for HEC Paris there is nothing like you must scored this or that but these top schools looks for GMAT Score. So, it is advisable that you do re-attempt your GMAT and try to score 700+ to get into a school like HEC, ESSEC, LSE or any other school.

We see you have a good overall case at hand provided you are able to portray your differentiated candidature (as a national-level basketball player and as an impact-driven entrepreneur) appropriately through a set of strong essays.

You must achieve your target GMAT score to have a good chance at most schools. To be honest, we would have liked to see a spike in your GMAT score for the top two-three schools on your list.

LSE & LBS can be within certain target range, but please give more details on your Extra-Curriculars, Final GMAT score. HEC is a good target even with 670, but I would choose to go with other more reputed schools with well recognised MBA programs instead of Essec/ EDHEC etc. even if you can manage a 670. What will really make the major difference is how you tie your stories. That would make the difference between admissions with high scholarships, and rejections.

Your GRE/GMAT are both great. You haven't however, listed the duration of your WE, nor have you listed major Extra-Curriculars. Please come back with these, for a more informed review of your chances. Depending on these, your chances could vary from the top to the 20-30 ranks, really wide range.

Let me try to answer this as neutrally and objectively as possible.

First of all try to score more than 650+ in your GMAT Score. As McGill university’s average GMAT score requirement is 667. Also, HEC Montreal's average GMAT score requirement is 630.
So, it will be feasible to score 650+ in your GMAT.

No work experience is required by any university so that is good to go.
Now coming to the total fee or the budget, let me be totally frank, HEC Montreal’s total fee is $34,200 and Mcgill university’s total fee is $57,465.

You can apply for scholarships and loans to get cover your most of the expenses in Canada.

Here are some of the scholarships you can apply to:

Hi everyone,

I am a law graduate who wants to get an MS in Finance(only STEM certified - to take advantage of 3 years of post work visa). I know I am lacking fundamentals to be admitted and that is the reason I am seeking advice from you guys.

My profile:
- 24 years old from East Europe. Currently in the US on an F1 visa.
- GPA: 3.17/4.00 - The best grade was 3.23 in my year of graduation(2021). I hold the second best grade. Unfortunately the profs, unlike their colleagues from UK and US, are not flying high in East Europe. So I do not accept this GPA as a low one.
- I have done two legal internships during my studies. One of them was in the Defense Industry so I was dealing with Intellectual Property Law. Besides the legal role I had a chance to interact with clients from different countries to sell military equipment, guns and bullets. Our clients were mostly government bodies.(literally sold bullets and shields to Azerbaijan before Karabakh War)
- I have done an Erasmus Exchange in Poland and two cultural exchange to the US during summers(One of them actually taught me how to bartend).
- I also founded a trade company to trade dried and fresh fruits between Mediterranean countries and East Europe during my studies.
- I have done an internship in the field of procurement in a quick commerce startup located in San Fran, CA.
- Have been member of The European Law Students' Association.
- Have organized events under a social and political foundation that has been established to tell people about the human rights' violation happening against Uyghur minority in China.

I am curious about the admission chances. Since I am a non-business/finance major I have a plan to take online courses with credits for fundamental courses(such as Calculus, Intro to Financial Accounting and Statistics). Besides that, I would like to take the GMAT exam to demonstrate the quantitative knowledge I have(I am planing to take 3 months to prepare for it). There are different universities offering Transcripts for those fundamental courses via Outlier and Saylor etc. Would it be reputable if I took those courses online?

I am hoping to get into a school with good reputation and employment rates for international students.

Indiana University Bloomington - Kelley Business School just waived TOEFL and GMAT for me after sending them my resume and unofficial transcript. I believe this is a good sign. I would like to go for the best option possible but I could not find much about Kelley Business School.

Please review my profile and situation honestly. Any recommendation for online courses and master programs is appreciated.
