Nearly all mail that is correctly addressed arrives at its
destination within two business days of being sent. In
fact, correctly addressed mail takes longer than this only
when it is damaged in transit. Overall, however, most
mail arrives three business days or more after being sent.
If the statements above are true, which one of the
following must be true?

(A) A large proportion of the mail that is correctly
(B) No incorrectly addressed mail arrives within two
(C) Most mail that arrives within two business days
of being sent is correctly addressed.
(D) A large proportion of mail is incorrectly
(E) More mail arrives within two business days of
being sent than arrives between two and three

C ??

I thought the answer should be either C or E. Between these two I assume the answer to be C. Because we can't prove E with the given information alone.

C also. Hard to explain but I used some Venn Diagram. Also, by POE, this is the only one that can reasonably be infered

I think D can reasonably be inferred, but I'm not too confident...

Hard question.

(None of the answers must be true, IMO.)

I too agree that none of the answers stands out.

May attempt at refuting (D) : There can be an inherent problem in postal transit the system that causes most mail to be damaged and hence they are delayed. So (D) need not be true.

I picked C also, but it's actually a direct restatement of what is in the question. This is an question from the actual LSAT. I feel bad for the aspiring lawyers at there.

I agree. Also, we don't know how long it takes for incorrectly addressed mail to arrive. Suppose it takes 20 days to arrive: then there should be very few of these in order for the average to be 3 days.

giddi-- read the first sentence of the problem.

Given:

Nearly all mail that is correctly addressed arrives at its
destination within two business days of being sent.

In fact, correctly addressed mail takes longer than this only
when it is damaged in transit.

Since nearly all correctly addressed mail arrives on time, it follows that the postal service damages very little mail.

If the postal service damages very little mail, and damage and mis-addressing are the two things that keep mail from taking 3+ days for delivery (which happens the majority of the time), than misaddressing is the only possible culprit.

And the refutation that I thought of for D doesn't hold water...

I like your reasoning stoolfi. You are too good!
