Need Advice on Materials! Please provide insight.

Anyone? I was hoping for some more discussion! Anybody with a score over 700 want to highlight the strategies they took to get there?

Welcome to GMATCLUB

Though I haven't taken the exam as of yet. I have seen a lot of members who scored 700+ on the Official tests lay emphasis on Official material. You should target completing as many OGs as you could get your hands on and also try and purchase the GMATPrep tests and question pack(EP1, EP2 and QP1).

The Question Pack comes with around 400+ questions and the exam packs are also a great source of questions.

Thanks! I have a question for you? How did you tackle the timing. Did you focus on quant primarily first then move into verbal? The other way around? Or did you try and mix in an equal amount of both at the same time? Thanks I have the OG18, do you know if previous editions of OG have different questions I should try and track down or do they include all the old questions in the newest edition?

The time is directly proportional to your skills to tackle the questions, both quant and verbal, AND you confidence. No matter what

From what I have understood the timing will automatically take care of itself
as you start getting better concept wise! Also, I wouldn't recommend you to
study part by part. It always makes sense to study both Verbal and Quant together.

As far as the OG's are concerned, the previous books do have a few questions that you might not have in OG18.
So try to get your hand on some of these books or search on the forum to see the new question added in every OG

Based on what you wrote in your original post, it sounds like you retook a practice CAT that you had already taken. If that is true, then unfortunately that is NOT a realistic way to assess your skills (seeing even a few 'repeat' questions can completely throw off the scoring algorithm, your energy/anxiety levels, pacing, etc.). By extension, we wouldn't be able to assume that you're currently at the "660 level." As such, you might want to take a NEW, FULL-LENGTH CAT.

Beyond that point, you'll likely find it beneficial to work through a 'mix' of Quant and Verbal each week. In addition, attempting to 'nail down' all of the 'theory' first isn't necessarily the most effective way to hone your skills. A 750+ score is essentially the 99th percentile - meaning that 99% of Test Takers never score that high regardless of how long they study or the number of times that they take the GMAT. Thankfully, NO Business School actually requires a score that high. If you are dead-set on that score goal though, you would likely find it beneficial to invest in a GMAT Course of some type (either Guided Self-Study or instructor-led).

Hi @EMPOWERgmatRichC it wasn't a retake it was a real CAT (hadn't seen the questions before).

1) My gmat is scheduled for November 21.

2) next year cycle - not a business program it's a Masters in finance program

3) I won't name the schools here for anonymity but they are competitive (top 8 in US). All have gmat averages above 700 except for one.

MGMAT and magoosh is sufficient enough to score 750. you need not have to read many book to cross the bar of 700. Read the same book again and again rather than reading many books for one or two times.
