Hey guys just a quick brief intro:-
I started studying for gmat sometime around the 1st week of august (had only done the powerscore Lsat LR bible intermittently over the past couple of months like 2 pages per week that kinds)...i was targeting a score of 760+.
Since i believe in self study i bought some books and started off, knowing i was weak in verbal i only focused on verbal SC from the Mgmat SC book(since its the most recommended and its good too) and CR from Powerscore LSAT LR bible (mammoth book to study but good as well), i didnt do anything for RC at all, just practised about 10 passages from OG a week before the test. I had an impression about the gmat, as though it would be pretty easy to get a 760 and really underestimated GMAT. So i scheduled a GMAT for 2nd Sept 2013 and got a 670 (Q49, V34) (I barely studied quant for a day, saw the formulaes and practised some 60 questions for DS and PS (First 30 and last 30 of OG)
I took 4 mocks and the exam scores are as under :-
MGMAT 1: 660 (Q45,V35)
MGMAT 2: 650 (Q44,V35)
GMAT Prep 1: 720 (Q50,V38)
GMAT Prep 2: 730 (Q49, V41)

GMAT (Official) : 670 (Q49,V34)
My main problem i realised is i have no strategy in verbal, i just read a question and mark an answer which i feel is right no methodology at all.(Though in SC since i have practically read that MGMAT SC book 1-2 times so i kinda get a sense as to what major mistakes are there in a sentence, but if a sentence has an akward/wordy/meaning error or idiom error(i didnt even open that chapter on idioms as i barely had time to read the other stuff) i then go on my instinct (which im starting to doubt). For CR i read powerscore LSAT but didnt apply anything of what they said i basically read a Q and answer it based on common sense and For RC i just read the entire passage and then answer the question.(what else to do!!!) - (but i do get some 60% hit rate as of now in rc)
I am from India but since a childhood we have been speaking good english at home , so i do have some sense about the english lang(not a total non-native eng speaker but that hasnt really helped me in GMAT i have come to realise now)

So the reason for all the wall of text that i wrote above is i want some of this prep course providers to gain a full understanding of my situation and let me know how they can help me out. I am targetting a score of 770+ and im thinking of retaking gmat maybe by Mid November 2013. I dont need specific coaching for quant as i will be actually preparing for quant this time round since i have enough time in hand. But for verbal i will need some help/tutoring/guidance/strategy and looking for some good prep providers out there. Also im willing to put in about 4 hours of study every day( i work for 6 days a week) and maybe about 8-10 hours on sunday.
Any recommendations etc would help. I have a busy work schedule hence havnt got much time to research all threads, i know this kind of threads must be existing but sorry didnt take the time to go through them.

My research so far:-
researched e-gmat a lot since i kept getting Rajat Sandana's mail in my inbox and i kinda was gonna settle for their verbal prep live but then jst chanced upon gmat pill today and was wondering how good those guys are....My only aim is to be confident of getting and actually getting 45+ on verbal, im not looking for money back and all that (infact ill give 100\$ bonus if i get 45+), my budget for the course is around 300\$ any good suggestions, please kindly do let me know.

Sorry for the really long thread, im in real need of some help in verbal hence wanted to give a good enough description of my current status.
Really appreciate those who read all that wall of text and cared enough to reply - (A Big thanks from me)

1. 45 on verbal is 99th percentile. Are you aware of that? Going from V35 to V45 is a STEEP road. Set your expectations correctly!
2. It will take a lot more than a \$100 bonus for verbal improvement of that magnitude
3. It will be easier, must easier to improve Q from 49 to 51 than verbal from 35 to 45. I would say it will be 20 times easier.
4. My understanding is that GMAT Pill is a much quicker course (more like a SWAT approach) vs. eGMAT that tends to be more extended though covers more topics. Also, eGMAT is available in on demand live modes, which is a difference to GMAT Pill, which is on Demand only.
5. If you are serious about that score and really want it, you will to take a course and probably get a tutor to help you pinpoint all the weaknesses you have and work out with you a study plan. My recommendation would also be to contact both GMAT Pill, eGMAT, and perhaps Magoosh to see if they have recommendations and if they would feel you could improve your score by so much or even half that (to V40).

More about gmat scores is here: gmat-scores-83890.html

P.S. I am very open to criticism and suggestions - please feel free to disagree!

Hey bb thanks for replying ,
1. I totally agree with you and am fully aware of what V45 means....and i would specifically need a private tutor to point out where im going wrong etc. (Though i know its a stretched target, i fully believe its achievable)
2. 100\$ bonus was just to emphasize that i am not looking for money back guarantee schemes ....that was jst by the side stuff shouldnt have mentioned it prolly
3. Q49 - 51 i am not looking for coaching for maths, ill prolly do some self study for that, i barely practised anything this time. Also let me tell you i didnt mark the last question in the gmat, i had enough time for it more than 4 minutes but i kept trying out some stuff on the rough sheet didnt keep note of my time and the time jst ran out..and still managed a 49..(Also this affected my mental state in english a LOT!!!...there were 2 RC passages in which i completely lost all concentration and had to read it about 3-4 times(fully) to make sense of what was going on..because not completing quant rattled me up...)
4. The reason i posted this is im waiting to connect from some of these guys from any of the prep providers and talk to them and see how they can help me out. So im awaiting their replies to this thread. I have shot a mail to rajat, will shoot one to Zeke now, and Magoosh never heard of them are they good?

P.S - My english score of 34-35 both in main gmat and MGMAT mocks i feel arent representative of my ability because I have been under tremendous stress during the verbal portion of the paper for all of the three tests. Also there are certain mental blocks that i have towards verbal due to bad results in CAT which are being broken now but still needs some more time and practise. Hence i feel that my current capability in english is around 39-40 and with some help from people and some right techniques(eg in RC (even long passages) i read every single word and try to understand it fully, then i answer all questions from memory - barely do i ever go back to the passage).... i feel i can make that 5 point jump.....anyways im not gonna hold any prep responsible for me not getting their (V45).....i just want some help, some guidance ultimately it all depends on me whether i get there or not......

Good, just wanted to make sure you were aware, which seems you fully are and realize your goal level.

As to improving to V45, one of the issues you are going to run with courses, is most of them are designed for users who are looking for V40 after scoring V20 (they end up getting V35 and are quite happy). Going from V35 to V45, is much longer than from V20 to V40 (you get into little things and a lot of subtleties).

Magoosh offers a free trial (many providers do). I would give it a shot perhaps?

P.S. It is a little harder to improve once you kind of "completed" a round of prep. Restarting and refreshing is harder than a clean slate (remodel vs. new build).

PPS Don't let the quant out of your sights. My prediction is that you will get V40+ on your next attempt and Q48. Still will be a good 730+ score, but Q is very likely to go down due to your confidence... I have seen it many times. I agree with you by the way that you don't need a course in Quant but don't lose the sight of it.

Hey thanks bb for your inputs, ya as regards to quant i have that at the back of my mind hence have started a daily 1hr of problem solving.
With regards to verbal you have hit the nail on the head!!, this is the reason why i want to know how people can help me out, cos i realised that most are courses made to target around V40, hence i wanted to know if there is any ccourse / prep which preps up the students for V45 range, through tutoring etc hence my reason for this thread....as yet no responses from any prep company...looks like noone's up for a challenge

Also ill check out Magoosh lets hope they respond atleast...
thanks once again man...for taking the time and the effort to reply to something not of your concern at all... /respect & appreciate
