Hi
I had been waiting to write a debrief for quite some time so Here I GO -
I am a sailor currently working as a Third Officer on Containers. I started preparing for GMAT in Dec 2018 and have been preparing for GMAT for a year.I gave my first mock in Dec 2018 and scored a 430.I had not studied Mathematics and English after high school and knew it was going to be a uphill task to get a decent GMAT score.
The first thing i did was join a GMAT coaching center because i had heard a lot about it. I have heard a lot of people say that it is a waste of time and money joining such coaching centers but I did not felt so. I needed a base to start somewhere from and joining a coaching center helped me in that aspect. For people who are completely lost and do not have any idea where to start from Such coaching centers can be helpful. The Course finished around Feb 2019. I did not see a lot of improvement in my score when i gave my second mock in Feb.I Scored a 470.
I knew i needed a lot of practice,so from Mid Feb to April End ALL I did was practice questions on GMAT club with the timer. I love the TIMER. If i was not able to do any question i read the explanations on the forums by experts until i understood them and redid those questions until i achieved good Grip over them. Here i would like to MENTION something very important for all users. If you are studying in this manner it is very important to ONLY READ THE EXPLANATIONS BY EXPERTS. A LOT OF TIME YOU MAY FIND WRONG EXPLANATIONS BY OTHER USERS AND INSTEAD OF HELPING YOU SUCH EXPLANATIONS MAY HARM YOU.So be very Careful especially for VERBAL.
In February someone suggested me to try
e-GMAT to improve my Verbal score because it had helped him.
E-GMAT is very good, but for some reason it did not help me a lot.
So By April End i had been able to bring up my Quant score to 45 but i was still struggling in Verbal. I Gave the exam in May 2019 and scored a 510 Q44 V17
I had given the 2 FREE OFFICIAL MOCK before the exam and scored:
560 Q47 V 20 in GMAT Prep 1
570 Q45 V 23 in GMAT Prep 2
When i went to give the exam i expected to score in the 550-600 range but was shocked with the Low score especially my verbal score. I came back home depressed after the exam. I was very sad for a week but got myself together and started preparing for GMAT again. I was struggling with SC and RC in verbal
In June my father suggested me to take private GMAT coaching, and Luckily I found a good GMAT Tutor. He is Chiranjeev Singh.Man i am very lucky to have found him .If there are people who are struggling with GMAT the best thing to do is to go for private coaching. You Get Undivided individual attention, immediate feedback and query resolution. I wish i had done this before.I started taking classes from him in July and finished in Dec. Due to some family problems i was not able to take regular classes. I never stopped doing questions on the GMAT club with the timer. In the past one year i have done around 18000 questions on GMAT club with the timer.I am even attaching a screenshot
I started giving mocks last month and scored consistently in the 650-680 range.I gave the GMAT yesterday and scored a 640 Q47 V30 i am a little disappointed with the score because i was consistently scoring Q48 or Q 49 and my verbal scored varied between 32-35 in the mocks.
I am targeting a 680,and i am almost there.I am gonna take a few days off now and give the exam next month. I felt it was important to share my story. NEVER GIVE UP. WITH HANDWORK DEDICATION AND PERSEVERANCE YOU CAN ACHIEVE ANYTHING.IT MAY TAKE A LITTLE TIME BUT IN THE END YOU ACHIEVE IT.
Thanks
