First of all, I'm real glad to have found this place on here. Just reading the various GMAT experiences and how some people have managed to increase their scores is very inspiring!

I'm from Bombay, India, took my first shot at the GMAT last November, scored a 550 (V 31, Q 35). Applied to a few places with my paltry score, all the while feeling I'm worth more on the GMAT.

Just last week I decided to take the GMAT again, hoping I'll be richer with my experience of the GMAT and also the knowledge of my strengths and weaknesses and how I can leverage them to achieve a higher score. Wihout doubt, it was the quant section that stumped me last time. I was outta touch with maths for a while, studied on my own and achieved the 500, this time I'm taking classes and hope to be more committed to my preparations than last time, one of the shortcomings was the lack of practice tests.

The quant section really was tough for me, I was falling short of time and guiessed on a few questions towards the end, I feel the key to cracking the quant is to be so well versed with different kinds of maths topics that you get an idea of what the answer will be or how to solve it withing 8-10 seconds of looking at the question, ofcourse this ability comes with great practice and I hope to get alot of that in the 3 months that I am commiting to my second shot at the GMAT.

Once again, I'm glad to be here and I'm looking forward to meeting and learning from everyone here!

More Later,

Lazerbud

Welcome Lazerbud,

I am surprised about your low Q score; usually your countrymen get maht quite high; I guess you are the stereotrype breaker

Ugghh..You won't believe how much that bothered me! Most ppl here do find Quant a cakewalk so the advice I got was don't work too hard on the quant, concentrate on Verbal!!

I guess I am the stereotype breaker! Can't wait to be back amongst the stereotypes though!

I guess you proved them wrong...

I do agree that math is somewhat easier than verbal, but it definitely requires preparation, at least some no matter how good you are or where you come from

Pfffttt...You're right. In hindsight, I think I wasted a lot of time doing the right kind of math.

I should've concentrated on "Arithmetic" problems and making my foundation in these stronger than wasting time on time n distance, work problems etc.

I'm actually attending prep courses for a very difficult entrance test we have here in India called the CAT, which is the test for the Indian Institutes of Management, hoping the gruelling maths in the course will improve my performance on the GMAT.
