Nine students are split into three equal teams to develop reports on one of three problems:
shortage of skilled labor, violence in schools, and low standardized test scores. How many
different teams of students are possible?

Hi all
this is easy . should be either of the two 9!/3!3!3! or 9!/3!3!3! 3!

Now can somebody give me a mnemonic which I can remember for the two situation. I always get confused and end up in using wrong one!! Murphy's law works really for me and againt me
I assume the groups are distinct, so should it be 9!/3!3!3! or the other one.

If groups are not distinct (and I assume it is the case here) answer is :

9C3.6C3.3C3

If they are, same expression divided by 3!

Twixt, I guess the groups are distinct as you can see, each group has different function. I think you are saying the reverse way but your answer is right. 'not distinct' and 'same' are same thing.

groups here are distinct. 3 persons on "skilled labor" is not the same as same 3 persons in "violence in school". Hence groups are distinct

Answer should be 9C3*6C3*3C3 for that reason

If groups are NOT distinct, you have to divide by 3! because all 3 teams would just be part of "a" team, notwithstanding which.
