Update: I didn't get in anywhere. Time to figure out how best to improve my GMAT score and apply again in the fall.

what would one consider "hard quant"? im taking as part of my masters the calculus sequence, linear algebra, intro stat, regression, multivariate, probability thoery, as well as the usual research methods and a couple of marketing classes.


ugh, sorry, been busy trying to finish my thesis.

Yeah, all those classes would be good hard quant courses that adcoms will like.

Take 2 for me (rejected everywhere on the first try):

3.5 undergrad - Michigan State
Econ and Accounting BA
18 months experience in IT
4.5 years in Corporate

710 on the GMAT (Q 48 V 38) (compared to 610 the first time)

Will send in apps for accounting Ph.D programs.
Prelim list (might expand to more schools in the coming months):

U Michigan
U Chicago
Wharton
U Washington
MSU
HBS

Since I did much better on the GMAT, I will also apply to MBA programs:

Thanks for the feedback.

This isn't a "I'll do anything", rather "doing better on the GMAT has potentially opened more opportunities". At first I was only considering PhD programs, but now that I broke 700, I see potential in both programs.

I spoke to an alum from U Chicago (MBA) and he mentioned that admission committees for the respective programs are mutually exclusive.

That being said, I don't think (as far as I've given thought) that my goals between the programs would diverge. The outcome would hopefully be in the same direction. The MBA would be a more business oriented approach, while the PhD would be more governance/academic.

Thanks again for the expanded feedback.

I'm going to sleep on that some more. I might just stick to a few of MBA programs (Wharton, HBS, Michigan) and then focus the rest on PhD apps, only over lapping on Michigan with both apps (PhD: UT Austin, Chicago, MSU, Michigan, Washington).

Undergrad: Top 10 Public University according to US News, 4.0 GPA to date, Business Administration with focus in Accounting
Research experience: No prior experience.
Teaching experience: Teaching assistant in Math Department. I have TA'd for differential equations and linear algebra.

I applied to over ten PhD programs in accounting, including

North Carolina
Southern California
Texas
