A,B,C use 'most' and therefore wrong
D dont sound right...

E. for comparetive degree we need to use more recently greater and smaller.

only E does that.

Of the two... so the comparison is between only two supernovas which eliminates the usage of the superlative -est.

I concur with Laxie and Nakib.
