Question about the way the score is reported  [#permalink]

New post Updated on: 28 Sep 2008, 08:33

I’ve just received my TOEFL iBT score, but am a bit confused about the way it was given at the

When I enter my profile there, I see the table with the labels:

‘Test’– TOEFL iBT
‘Test date’ – *date of my test*
‘Test Score’ – available

When I click on ‘see details’, the View Scores page is loaded, and the table with the scores appears:

‘Test’ – TELXML (?whatisit?)
‘Test date’ – *date of my test*
and then ‘Reading’, ‘Listening’, ‘Speaking’, ‘Writing’ and ‘Total’ with the respective scores.

So, I’m a bit confused about what this ‘TELXML’ means. Is this the alias for Toefl iBT? Or is it some mistake? I know that I perhaps worry too much, but I just want to be sure that everything is OK with the score.

I would be grateful if other gmatclubbers who took TOEFL recently would share their experience about the format the score was presented at ETS site.

EDITED: Got a letter with the scores a few days ago, and there's nothing weird. No funny words either. So I guess my score is OK.

Similary story to many of you guys, today received my scores

113/120, with the following breakdown:

W 30/30
R 30/30
L 30/30
S 23/30

I'm starting to think that adcoms will see many scores similar to ours and will therefore diss the speaking part (the interview assesses your speaking abilities much better).

That's definitely right, schools will gauge your speaking skills during the interview. I took TOEFL in August and scored 108:
R 30
L 28
S 22

I've scored 22 speaking and I don't even have an accent. I think that your S score depends more on your concentration and technical abilities of the test center than on your actual language skills.

Fellow of mine was addmited to Tuck with only S20 (he had 105 overall), nobody has ever even mentioned his S score during entire application process. I think that you have nothing to worry about as long as your overall score is above spefic schools' threshold.

Of course, there are some exemptions such as Cambridge Judge that requires at least W25 alongside overall 100, but that is the only one and I've never saw similar requirement for the speaking section.

Hi Got my TOEFL iBT scores...

Total - 104

Gosh! Just qualified on Judge-Cambridge criterion - requires TOEFL iBT (Writing>=25).
