Its a really good question. I was so convinced with A that I didn't focus on C at all. :(

I have a question, what if Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Flames were types of birds. I don't know if sports teams with any such names exist, so I consider them as birds.

Then , what could be the answer ?

Although C is the correct choice, it assumes the knowledge of egg crate.

it is said that we use common sense to realize the illogic meaning on sc.

but, in this problem, I think" the roof is home" is more logic.

pls, help, I do not know the name , the position, and so, I am wrong

pls, explain

Often said to look like an egg crate, the Omni Coliseum's roof was home to the Atlanta Hawks from 1972-1997 and the Atlanta Flames from 1972-1980

A. Often said to look like an egg crate, the Omni Coliseum's roof was home to the Atlanta Hawks from 1972-1997 and the Atlanta Flames from 1972-1980

B. The Omni Coliseum. home to the Atlanta Hawks from 1972-1997 and the Atlanta Flames from 1972-1980, is often said to look like an egg crate, and its roof is distinctive.

C. Noted for its distinctive roof, often said to look like an egg crate, the Omni Coliseum was home to the Atlanta Hawks from 1972-1997 and the Atlanta Flames from 1972-1980

D. The distinctive roof of the Omni Coliseum, often said to look like an egg crate, was home to the Atlanta Hawks from 1972-1997 and the Atlanta Flames from 1972-1980

E. Noted for its distinctive roof, the Omni Coliseum, often said to look like an egg crate, was home to the Atlanta Hawks from 1972-1997 and the Atlanta Flames from 1972-1980

IN C , "Often said to look like an egg crate" is close to the both the nouns - roof and coliseum. In such scenarios how can we find whether the modifier is modifying the preceding noun/clause or the succeeding one ?

it is crucial to understand the meaning of the sentence here:
OC was home to AH from 72-97 and to AF from 72-80.
the roof of the OC is often said to look like an egg crate.

A. Often said to look like an egg crate, the Omni Coliseum's roof was home to the Atlanta Hawks from 1972-1997 and the Atlanta Flames from 1972-1980
illogical meaning - the roof was home? no.

B. The Omni Coliseum. home to the Atlanta Hawks from 1972-1997 and the Atlanta Flames from 1972-1980, is often said to look like an egg crate, and its roof is distinctive.
I don't know what the period stands after OC. i believe it is a typo. nevertheless, this one changes the meaning, and is still illogical:
OC was home to AH and AF.
OC is often said to look like an egg crate - this is incorrect.
its roof is distinctive - separate IC, well..still not the intended meaning, so B is out.

C. Noted for its distinctive roof, often said to look like an egg crate, the Omni Coliseum was home to the Atlanta Hawks from 1972-1997 and the Atlanta Flames from 1972-1980
often said.. - correctly modifies roof. now the meaning is clear, and all the modifiers are in place.

D. The distinctive roof of the Omni Coliseum, often said to look like an egg crate, was home to the Atlanta Hawks from 1972-1997 and the Atlanta Flames from 1972-1980
the roof was home - no.

E. Noted for its distinctive roof, the Omni Coliseum, often said to look like an egg crate, was home to the Atlanta Hawks from 1972-1997 and the Atlanta Flames from 1972-1980
OC - said to look like an egg crate - no.

C is the correct answer.

The intended meaning is crucial to follow in this question as MV has pointed out.

First of all, we have to appreciate that a coliseum is sports complex. It is not an aviary where birds might be homed, especially on the roof.

Second, one can understand mistaking a roof housing birds as we have often heard of pigeons dwelling on roofs, but how can we take a roof taking flames? So, let’s realize they are just proper nouns and not collective nouns.

Third, when we say that x was home to Y, we do not mean that y lived at X. We often say that Eden Garden is the home to Kolkata Knight Riders, Feroz Shah Kotla is home the Delhi Dare Devils or Wankhede stadium is home the Mumbai Indians, but we are not implying that these teams are physically living there. The home is a metaphor here.

Please re-visit the question in the light of the above points.
