OG (11th edition) vs. Kaplan materials [#permalink]

Hi All,

I am new to the club. For those of you who have already taken a Kaplan course and bought the OG book (11th edition), I would like to find out if there are any overlapped questions between OG and Kaplan study materials (ie.Kaplan course book, High score CD, and on line quizzes/Q banks).

I have just finished the Kaplan course and am planning to take the real test next month. I am debating if I should focus on OG for the remaining time or redo the difficult questions from the Kaplan materials.

Any suggestions about the study strategies are appreciated.

AMBA

By law there can't be...Kaplan writes their own questions and can't publish any OG questions under their name. It would be a copyright violation.

They didn't use the OG in their class??? Princeton Review uses it for their homework assignment in their course. It's a must!

Good point. I guess I meant to say if there are any overlapped question types between the two.

I just got OG today and quickly went through it. It seems that some of the question types are overlapped.

Did you take a class with PR? It's good that they use OG for their HW assignment.

I would say that focusing on OG is more important than kaplan.
Even if the kaplan material is excellent to preparing for the test, OG has the question that more than likely will show up in the test.
Kaplan is great for preparing gmat but they do differ slightly from the ets questions.

The question types should definitely overlap...there are a specific number of different question types on the GMAT, and each of the guides at least tries to cover all of them. Some do it better than others, and have practice questions that are more representative of the real thing than others, but they all aim to teach strategies and give practice for the same types of questions.

I have not yet taken a PR course but am heavily leaning toward them based on my experiences with their books and recommendations from others.

i wouldn't use Kaplan at all. their math is wordy and is not similar to real gmat.
use official guide for verbal and challenges from this website for math.

I guess it depends on how you look at it...in terms of study materials, Kaplan course offers you pretty much the same stuffs as all the other Kaplan books that you can buy on line. If you need help and discipline to study, then it's not a bad idea to join the class. But if you are a very disciplined person and has actively participate in this forum and want to save big bucks, then joining the class may not have a huge impact on you. Unfortunately, I found out this forum not until the Kaplan course is almost over...
