If the price paid ofr 8 comic books bought on Tuesday = X
Total Price paid = 780 + X
Average Price paid = (780 + X)/(52+8)

Question : Is (780 + X)/(60) > 20 ?
Question : Is (780 + X) > 1200 ?
Question : Is ( X) > 1200-780

Question : Is ( X) > 420 ?

Statement 1) Each of the comic books she purchased on Tuesday cost more than \$30
i.e. Total Price paid for 8 books > 8x30
i.e. X > 240
therefore X may or May NOT be greater than 420
INSUFFICIENT

Statement 2) Each of the comic books she purchased on Tuesday cost less than \$40
i.e. Total Price paid for 8 books < 8x40
i.e. X < 320
therefore X is certainly lesser than 420
SUFFICIENT

Official solution from Veritas Prep.

The correct response is (B). The average is equal to the sum of terms divided by the number of terms. Here, the question is asking whether (\$780 + price of the 8 additional) / 60 > \$20, or (780 + x) / 60 > 20. Simplifying, we need to know whether the 8 additional comic books summed to more or less than \$420. From Statement (1), if each comic book was more than \$30, then all we know is that the 8 additional comic books summed to more than \$240. That could be a value less than or greater than \$420. Insufficient.

From Statement (2), if each comic book was less than \$40, then the sum of the 8 additional comic book was less than \$320. Since \$320 is less than \$420, this is sufficient.
