On the number line shown above, the distance separating any pair of adjacent tick marks is the same. What is the value of a?

(1) a + b = 4/7

(2) 7b = 8

Here is my approach.

Let the length of each unit be x.

We see length of a is -2x and B is 4x .

For finding A we just need to find the value of x.Since A is -2x

STAT1:

a + b = 4/7

-2x+4x= 4/7

x= 4/14=2/7

so STAT1 is sufficient.

STAT 2:

7b=8

7*4x= 8

x = 8/28 = 2/7

So STAT 2 s suffcient.

So both statements are sufficient.
