if we change "ignorantly" to "ignorance" in B, will B become a correct answer?

No. IMO still D remains the right answer. "with" is a wrong conjunction. The author here wants to state the informant professed because he was scared of reprisals.

Could someone break this SC down.

IC = One of the informants eventually professed ignorance of the crime.

For fear that his testimony would lead to reprisals against him by his former confederates

"that" introduces a clause here as described in italics.

Questions: If "for" is a conjuction how is the sentence syntactically correct?

IC, <for fear that> DC ???
