take the proportion of wine in both vessels. proportion of wine in first vessel is 5/8.( 5 parts wine and 3 parts soda, so wine is 5 out of total of 8 parts). similarly proportion of wine in second vessel is 9/14. we have to take a common denominator. find lcm of 8 and 14. lcm of 8 and 14 is 56. now convert proportion of wine in same format. proportion of wine in first vessel is 35/56 and in second it is 36/56.

so now denominators are common so we can compare the strength of wine. its 35 : 36.

First Vessel:5/8
Second Vessel:9/14

(5/8)/(9/14) = 35/36

Hope this helps

5/8 : 9/14

LCM of 8,14 = 56

(5/8)*56 : (9/14)*56

First Vessel $$= \frac{5}{5+3}$$

Second Vessel$$= \frac{9}{9+5}$$

$$Ratio = \frac{\frac{5}{8}}{\frac{9}{14}} = \frac{5}{8} * \frac{14}{9} = \frac{35}{36}$$

I think this question have a little mistake, because question is about STRENGTH of wine (62.5% vs 64.2%) and answer about quantity of parts (35 parts vs 36 parts)
