Look at last yr's thread in reverse order. I might have posted something (or was it the yr before?)

Now that you are in, just relax. There will be regional get-togethers for admitted students, admitted student wknd invitation, background check request, etc. But nothing really picks up until R2 is over.

Extremely shocked to have received Yale's acceptance email because I didn't receive any interview invite this round! I am a reapplicant from Asia with brief background below-

- 1st application: Jan-2011; Interview: Feb-2011; Waitlisted till Jul-2011
- 2nd application: Oct-2011; No interview
- Education: Undergrad in Canada- GPA 3.6
- GMAT: 700 (Q:49, V:37, AWA:6)
- W/E: Big 4 < 1 yr; Corporate Banking 5 yrs from Management Trainee

I would like to pay my big THANK YOU to the advises & support from friends I have met on this forum :)

TIPS FOR WAITLISTED CANDIDATES:

1) Send an email within the 1st week to the WL manager to ask questions to make sure you know the WL rules well. For example, when and how they would assess WL candidates from now on? On rolling basis or in a batch after some time?

2) Send your Letter of Interest say latest by January end. During my own WL, I was advised to send the LoI in at least 1-2 weeks before the Depsoit Deadline of Admits.

3) Ask for more recommendation letters, especially from graduates of Yale or peers schools. I provided 3 more recommendations during my WL.

4) Don't send them more than 1 email update per month, but try to send one at least every 6 weeks. Content of updates I sent included: deepened understanding on Yale SOM after chat with current students, job promotion and job change.

The wait is always painful... and I say this from my own experience. But please don't give up and show your consistency. Best of luck to all those still waiting!!

Wow, Congratulations! Brilliant advice for those who've been waitlisted.

Hi All,
I was applying to Yale Silver Scholars Program and was wondering if anyone had any information about the academic recommendation. What is the admission committee looking to evaluate from a professors recommendation. What if the professor doesn't know a lot about the student?

I have a question regarding the GMAT score.
Do we need to send our official score for application evaluation at Yale or can self reported scores be used by the adcom? I understand official scores are required if granted admission, but do we need to send them in as part of our application.
Thanks.

If you are applying to the Silver Scholars program, treat the application as if you are applying to a top law school or med school program. Since they can't evaluate your candidacy based on work experience, they will look at your essays, recommendations, GPA and test score. Basically, they want bright individuals with leadership skills (ordinarily headed to top graduate programs in other fields such as law, medicine, etc) in the Silver Scholars program.

Recommendation letters from professors are important part of the application. It's better to get the letters from professors who can be your passionate advocate to your candidacy and ability. If you are simply getting a letter for the sake of getting a letter......well, I am not sure what to tell you. This program is VERY competitive to get into.

Pardon me if this has already been discussed before. I am searching for the same answer.
With all the last minute rush, It completely slipped my mind to officially report my GMAT score.
Do they need Official GMAT score from Pearson to process my application? If Yes, Can it arrive after the application deadline ?

Generally, there's a bit of a grace period. Also - Pearson tends not to need the actual full 2 weeks to send to schools - they're giving themselves a grace period as well. I'd say as long as you've requested them 3-4 days before the deadline, you should be okay.

Hey guys - have any of the R1 waitlisters heard back from Michelle Vitali, the waitlist manager for this year, yet? I emailed her a few days before Xmas requesting feedback on my application but haven't had a reply yet..

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and am a joint applicant so I've been focusing on my other apps and am trying to work my way through the MBA essays now. Yale is one of only two programs I'm applying to for non-profit management and I'm really excited about it. However I'm nervous about my essays and want them to be good. Does anyone here do personal statement exchanges/reviews out of the goodness of their heart (current students, Nink, others?:)?

Feel free to PM me. Thanks!

rohitsingh01-

I'm glad to hear you say that. I heard from her immediately afterward due to a technical problem that occurred, but have not heard back since. I assume that she took the long holiday and will be returning emails this week.

I am a little confused about the question under work experience that reads:

"Number of direct and indirect reports, if any (not including team members)"

I work for a small firm. There are 2 principals, 1 director, 2 senior analysts, and 2 analysts. I am a senior analyst and I am responsible for training the analysts, as well as guiding them through projects that I am the lead analyst for. Does this mean that they "indirect reports" of mine?

I would count them as indirect reports.

Putting the finishing touches on my application. Was curious if anyone had any insight into essay option number two. I have what I believe to be a solid essay, but it is focused more on a professional weakness than a personal one. Does anyone have any idea if this is acceptable or if it specifically would need to be about a personality trait?

Hey everyone.

Does anybody know:

1) if there will be an admitted students thread? and
2) which financial institutions (aside from CS) that Yale is a 'core' school for?

TIA
