Extracurricular Activities - Is it too Late to Start? [#permalink] New post  13 Apr 2012, 14:03
I graduated from college in December of 2004. Post college, I have had minimal involvement in extracurricular activities and no volunteer experience. I plan on applying this fall during rounds 1 and 2, leaving about 5-6 months before round 1 and 8-9 months before round 2. Is it too late to get involved at this point? Will admissions committees view the sudden involvement as a negative?

For example, I am thinking about coaching a summer youth lacrosse team. I played in college and have wanted to get involved with the game again in some fashion. (Let’s be honest though, I would like to include it on my resume and mention it in the application essays.)

Any thoughts?

Do it. The sooner you get involved in something the less suspect it looks. But honestly just do it cause you want to.

I wouldn't consider it a waste of time. Doing extracurricular activities that you actually like doing and want to do are the ultimate "help, can't hurt" things for the resume. If nothing else, at least your having fun with what your doing.

Better late than never... but pursue something you are passionate about, don't sign up for the first thing that comes your way just to make your resume look better..
