Re: Tepper VS. Vandy wih $$$ [#permalink]
Okay. I don't know much about Tepper or Vandy so I don't know who recruits there. Do you have an idea of % of students from each school who go into asset management? What type of companies recruit on each campus. Also have you talked to people in the investment club at each school? The clubs are often the best recruiting resource on most campuses. Get an idea from club members how other people with no finance background have fared with getting internships and post MBA job offers. Each school will likely give you the classes you need to prepare you. The difference maker will be in the co-curricular offerings. Does Tepper or Owen have a student run fund? Working on that often looks good on the resume and also helps you gain hands on experience.

The sum of all of these things will determine which is the best school for your goals. I think that trumps money and ranking all the time. If both schools are equal in terms of career prospects and you feel an equally good fit at both schools, then I see no reason not to take the full ride at Owen.

This is real close to me. Since I'm from the southern states (if you want to call Virginia a southern state), I'm more partial to Vanderbilt.

My question would be, what is driving you towards Finance?

It can't be called a "dying" industry, obviously, but given the current landscape, I'm surprised you aren't looking to cultivate your IT experience even further.

Do you just not like IT? Do you find Finance a lot more interesting?

I'm just curious because it seems to me that Tepper's amazing strength in anything tech-related would be very appealing to someone with an admit there.
