+1 to Wharton this year. Not sure about Toefl requirements, they hide the range and politely refused to talk about minimum possible scores even during admission event. Have 106, thinking about retaking.

Debating about being a Wharton re-applicant this year. They did a couple things last year throughout the whole process that put me off a little bit. Like giving international students only a few weeks notice for interviews and then telling them they must get to campus regardless of costs of ability to obtain a visa. Also sending people with a 49 Quant on the GMAT letters that they might need to work on their quant skills to make it through the program.

If details like this put you off, just don't re-apply: the mean Adcom will do something similar this year for sure. It is never perfect.

Essay questions for the class of 2015 are out! (https://www.wharton.upenn.edu/mba/admiss ... harton.cfm)

Class of 2015 Essay Questions
The Admissions Committee is interested in getting to know you on both a professional and personal level. We encourage you to be introspective, candid, and succinct. Most importantly, we suggest you be yourself.

REQUIRED QUESTION:
How will the Wharton MBA help you achieve your professional objectives? (400 words)

RESPOND TO 2 OF THE FOLLOWING 3 QUESTIONS:
1. Select a Wharton MBA course, co-curricular opportunity or extra-curricular engagement that you are interested in. Tell us why you chose this activity and how it connects to your interests. (500 words)

2. Imagine your work obligations for the afternoon were cancelled and you found yourself "work free" for three hours, what would you do? (500 words)

3. "Knowledge for Action draws upon the great qualities that have always been evident at Wharton: rigorous research, dynamic thinking, and thoughtful leadership." - Thomas S. Robertson, Dean, The Wharton School

Tell us about a time when you put knowledge into action. (500 words)

ADDITIONAL QUESTION FOR REAPPLICANTS:
All reapplicants to Wharton are required to complete the Optional Essay. Please use this space to explain how you have reflected on the previous decision on your application and to discuss any updates to your candidacy (e.g., changes in your professional life, additional coursework, extracurricular/volunteer engagements). You may also use this section to address any extenuating circumstances. (250 words)

OPTIONAL SECTION FOR ALL APPLICANTS:
If you feel there are extenuating circumstances of which the Committee should be aware, please explain them here (e.g., unexplained gaps in work experience, choice of recommenders, or questionable academic performance, significant weaknesses in your application). (250 words)

How are you folks interpreting this question:

"2. Imagine your work obligations for the afternoon were cancelled and you found yourself "work free" for three hours, what would you do? (500 words)"

I could see making a case for interpreting it two ways:

1) "You suddenly have three hours free at work. What will you do?"
2) "You suddenly got off work three hours early. What will you do?"

I'm leaning more towards the second interpretation, but I'd be curious to hear what others think as well.

I'm reading it the second way aswell, pretty much asking "what do you do in your free time, what are your hobbies, or tell us something about yourself outside of a professional setting"

Agree with above poster. 2nd interpretation sounds more accurate. There's a clear emphasis on 'work FREE' after they've already stated your work obligations were 'cancelled'.

The 2nd question was the only one I didn't like, but I agree with the 2nd interpretation.

Hi guys, I'll most likely be applying to round 1.

What are the options for visiting campus? Do they offer tours and meetings now that its summer, or will we need to wait until fall classes start?

Guys, do we have to specify only one major or can we list two majors in the application?

Re: Wharton 2013 - Calling All Applicants [#permalink]
I noticed that there’s consistency between the last couple years (in the 2009 employment report, c/o 2009 and c/o 2010 numbers) in backgrounds represented (ie, ~15% from consulting, ~5% media/entertainment, ~5% Biotech, etc) in the entering class.

Would anyone know if that’s based on the distribution of applicants from those fields? Eg: are there really 3x more people with consulting backgrounds applying than those w/ biotech and IB backgrounds? Or are those with consulting backgrounds more at an advantage for admission compared to IB/Biotech? Basically, I want to know if the acceptance rate consistent within applicant groups or is there a statistical advantage within them?

In for Wharton-Lauder: Mandarin Chinese track for 2013!

Very different questions from Wharton this year... glad the Lauder questions haven't changed :)

Really curious what the new tracks will entail. (https://bit.ly/JgJIOo) Haven't seen anymore details about it since they announced it in May. It looked to me like just some tailoring of the MS portion of the degree, and I assumed all the language requirements/progression are still the same. Do you have anymore information about this, @xerox?

Does anybody know if Wharton is planning to make the team-discussion admissions test official and include it this year? There was no mention of it in their admissions requirements for 2013. Link below regarding the new addition:
