Hi, I am also an applicant but still researching business schools. I recently attended the Bangalore Info Session on Stanford GSB. I've written my experience here so that it can help someone else too in their application process. Hope that helps.

Why is this forum so dead? How are everyone's essays coming along? I am just starting to write my first one. I think I am going to be short on time by the time I apply.

All the forums seem pretty dead to me. I've been blogging to keep myself entertained, but that's kinda lonely too.

I'm overhauling my Stanford essays at the moment after getting good advice from a friend. I'm the most stressed about my GSB essays for the obvious reasons--they're super tough, Stanford is super competitive, and it's the most important part at this point!

In the application itself, Stanford asks us to describe ourselves in 20 words. Should this have sentences or be a list of random words? It seems we're given leeway to do whatever we want here, but I just want to make sure.

I can't imagine a list of 20 unconnected words would be very compelling. If I got an essay like that, I would probably lose patience reading it after the first five or so.

I agree, but where does the 20 word description comes in the application?

I just finished talking with all my reccomenders and it feels great to be done with the most uncontrolled part of the application. I sat down with just to make sure they highlight the things Stanford GSB is looking for in an applicant.

Also, I am very close to being done with my 1st draft of application essays.

How's everyone else doing?

Stanford doesnt have the optional essay but rather have 'additional information'. I was thinking it was the same as the optional essay but the instruction I found on the online application is confusing me a bit especially the last sentence.

"Only complete this section if there is any other information that is critical for us to know but is not captured elsewhere (e.g., extenuating circumstances affecting academic or work performance). Do not include essays"

This is a place for you to be succinct about critical information you need to add (e.g., explanation of low undergraduate GPA, why you don't have a recommendation letter from your current supervisor, etc). Do not use this space to include an additional random essay you may have written for another school.

For a school with over 6000 applications, this thread looks really dead. Its like everyone is not sure of what to say here. Applying to stanford is so scary. I literally called it quits on changing my essays a few days ago. i am submitting what i currently have.......the more people you speak to, the more ideas you get and the more confused you become.lol

hi all! The app says to scan the back page of our transcript for the transcript code?
I'm an international applicant, and there's nothing in the back of the transcript at all. Is this only for folks who studied in the US?
Thanks!
