Sloan 2013 (MIT) - Calling All Applicants

Does MIT care a lot about attending info sessions?
In their app form they have a long section on this...

I went to one but didn't really participate..

Guys - who else is a fan of MIT's simplistic ApplyYourself interface? unlike other schools, no nonsense of describing your role in detail, extra currics, etc. etc. Its so clean and convenient. When you are submitting a professional resume and are writing a cover letter, along with 2 essays and an optional one to say anything else you want to, their approach to saying we have all the information we need, is highly commendable.

Compare this to Tuck or HBS or Wharton - filling that ApplyYourself application was a pain!

For MIT alumni - Can you tell me more about MIT Sloan Management Review (SMR). I gather it is a journal publication but I am not sure I understand how it is affiliated with MIT. Do students have input ?
Would it be something worth mentioning as a possible area of interest in the apps?

Any thoughts on why Sloan requires microeconomics and calculus grades specifically? Wouldn't this be covered in the transcript?

Also, since it doesn't specify, are we free to put the grade for any of the calculus classes we took? (ie Calc I, Calc II or Calc III). Or is it implied that this should be calc I.

It can't hurt and it has the potential to help a lot. I'd say what's more valuable is going to visit Sloan for the Ambassadors program even after you submitted your application (but not too long after.)

I went to the Sloan Diversity weekend and not only did I get face time with current students and administrative staff from the Dean of the whole school to Admissions Officers, but I also really learned more about what it's like to be at Sloan, how people support each other and how the academic program is different.

I'm absolutely sure I read that you need to put the most advanced course you took and grade you received for that course. Which is super annoying because I did fine in Calc, less well in Series and Multivariable Calculus :(

Great point, just found that exact explanation in an MIT online chat transcript. Fortunately, I am in the opposite position of you, steady progress from I - III, so appreciate the insight.

By the way, for everyone stressing over every single little word and panicking that there might be a typo in one of their essays, has anyone else noticed the typo in the MIT application?

Obviously I'm still going to make sure I don't have any typos but I feel like if they can have one in their actual essay question... ;)

Im down with you on this one Str1der.. After filling out apps and having to write job descriptions and junk, this application was a breeze.. touching up the essays, then submitting with everyone else.

Is anyone else refreshing and going over and over through each section of the application thinking you forgot to fill out a section???? the MIT app is so smooth and lean. I love it. I wish other schools would just do the same and focus more on the attachments like resume and essays rather than filling out duplicate information over and over... sigh...

Hi Everyone, may I ask what is the font size you used for your resume? MIT requested to have only 50 lines and I had to delete some information. Originally, I used a size of 10 but for MIT I used 10.5. Thanks.
