Stern (NYU) 2013 - Calling All Applicants

Well, never had any luck getting into the chat. Wanted to ask for clarification about Essay 2. The two paths. What do you guys think: can your short term goal be the same, but then your long term path be different?

And VikramMukhi, after thinking about this a little more, if they responded with that, then I would assume you could use the extended deadline and won't be penalized. It's not like they are going to review it during the week after the original deadline anyways. My initial feeling was just that it only takes a few hours to research online and have your call, and at this point there is a week until the deadline, so plenty of time to do those things. You probably would have had time to do the bulk of your essays and then just fill in that other stuff you gleaned from your research. While people without power wouldn't have been able to even write their essays at all. But, if they didn't specify that they had to be people geographically disrupted by Sandy, then you are probably ok to use the extension.

Just got off the chat with the adcom. Regarding the extension, I specifically asked them if it applies to me or not given that I am in India but still faced difficulties in researching and contacting people. Their response was that the extension applies to any applicant who faced difficulties. Moreover, you don't need to provide any proofs etc. to justify taking the extension.

I guess this should end the extension debate.

Sorry but I couldn't say. If it helps I never had to fill anything extra in during the application process until I had the offer and needed a visa.

Certainly some of them are (though I must admit I have never been), but I am not sure if it is all of them. If you have a specific interest it might be worth asking the adcom at interview.

Although there definitely is an argument for keeping the LT goals the same in both, I have seen quite a few application that were well done with different LT goals. I think that as long as both make good practical sense and are ambitious, (and don't go off in two totally different directions) it should be fine.

Application submitted, recs in, and essay 3 mailed. Nyu undergrad here. Now time to wait. Based on last year, seems like some people find out abt interviews and acceptances well before the notifications date given. Does anyone know what the typical timeline is and when i can expect to hear something

Stern's notification date is later than some schools' dates to put down deposits - what do you guys think?

Well i can tell you this. According to last years posts, people were interviewing in december with acceptances trickiling in as early as january

To the best of my knowledge, if you have taken these exams before the application deadline then you are fine with self-reporting your scores in the online application even if the official score reports arrive at the school after the deadline.



I also heard that Stern has a sort of a rolling process, meaning they inform admitted applicants even before the official decision date.

I was about to submit my application but kept getting errors after submitting my credit card details. Anyone else got this problem?
I contacted Tech Support, who asked me to contact the school directly instead. Looks like I won't meet the 15 Nov deadline!

Does anyone know if we can submit our application before the recommenders submit their letters? Or do we have to wait?

I think you can, but I only assume so because they use the same platform as Stanford, where it was possible to submit your app and you could even send reminder e-mails to your recommenders.

I submitted my app before Nov 15th, but one of recommender just submitted the recommendation today (Nov 17th). Do you thing the Nov 26th deadline will apply?

Yes, the extended deadline is for anyone affected by Hurricane Sandy in whatever capacity that may be... So, try to get your app in by the 15th and if not, then get it in by the 26th for R1. Good luck!
