E. In his first book, originally published in 1992, revered journalist and author Ruben Martinez explores the street-artist culture in Los Angeles and its

I spent 1'07'' to solve this problem and chose answer choice (E).
The answer choices have a 3-2 split between "their" and "its". Since the object is street-artist culture, a singular noun, it is incorrect to use the possessive adjective "their". Therefore, answer choices (A), (B), and (D) can be eliminated.
I chose (E) because I think it is quite similar to an OG problem (thelonious-monk-who-was-a-jazz-pianist-and-composer-127087.html) in that a noun that is used to describe someone's occupation is placed before that person's name and without a comma. I don't think it's a rule but rather a special idiom.

(A), (B) and (D) - No antecedent exists for 'their
(B) - singular subject 'ruben' does not agree with plural verb 'explore'

Unless my eye sight is cheating me, could someone tell me the difference between A and B?

Strangely, this seemingly weird exhibition of various modifiers is not a modifier problem. One can remove A, B, and D for subject -pronoun number agreement error-- The culture is singular but 'their' is 'plural'. One can also remove C for saying 'Ruben', who is singular and 'explore' which is plural. E finally remains
It is not clear what the author wants to convey through the maze of modifiers in this topic.

Wait shouldn't C read "explores in his first book?" Ruben Martinez is singular therefore the verb explore should be singular - explores.

Not a good question.

In E also, originally published in 1992, seems to modify Ruben. Illogical.
