Took the test with *literally* no studying. I checked out the test format the night before so I knew what kind of questions there would be. No, not joking, not trying to brag. But those who say 750+ scores are impossible without studying for weeks or months are wrong. A small segment of the population can score that high, and I guess I'm one of them. For the record, I've had a very strong background in math starting early in childhood, so the quant stuff comes pretty naturally for me.

Took the test August 14. I used Manhattan GMAT quant books + practice tests, and GMATPREP practice tests.

Also, as the 100th score poster on this topic, I thought I should do a little math for us all since I've been wondering what percentile I am. Keep in mind that math is clearly my weak spot given my GMAT results. I initially took a rough crack at answering this using statistical guesstimates, but decided to use our sample instead and arrived at a similar answer.

Enjoy!

Where did you get these numbers from ? The data looks interesting, but can you please explain the steps you followed ?

The data came from the responses on this thread. I didn't incorporate the data in the first post because I wasn't sure how old it was. Then I just shaped the distribution of the top 1% (760 or higher) using that data.

Edit -

I should also mention that total test takers came from a GMAC news story. Also, if GMATClub would be willing to share the data, I'd be interested to see the database of 760 and higher scores in the past few years. There are definitely more high scorers than we see on this thread.

This was what I was looking for :) thank you and kudos!

Just to add: Can't conclude much, but the data does tally with 'fewer than 50' 800 scores a year. (from the OG).

GMAT Date: 10/9/2012
Score: 780(Q51,V47), AWA 6.0, IR 8.

Materials: the official GMAT guide and the two official tests. About the same result on the practice tests.

I also took the SAT and the ACT in 2012 (2360 and 35), so this should also be counted as my preparation time. In my opinion, GMAT is by far the most sensible test of all three meaning that it tests your actual skills in math, English, reasoning, etc., whereas the SAT largely tests your skill in taking the SAT. Of course, this is only my opinion.

Forgot to mention: I read most of the explanation for the quant. and verbal questions from the OG, even for the questions that I answered correctly.

Here are my stats:

Test taken on 9/21/2012
Total 770, 49Q, 47V, 5.5AWA, 8IR

Study Materials: GMAT TestPrep study materials and 2 practice exams, Manhattan GMAT CAT Tests. My quant score could have been higher but not bad for only spending 3 weeks preparing and being 8 years removed from undergrad :)

Now let's just hope my old arse can get accepted to one of these schools!
