Hello All

I am looking for career advise in Energy Sector concentrated into Trading and consultancy, post MBA.
I am Merchant navy officer with 4 years of work ex post graduation.
I work on Very large crude oil carriers , so I am involved in oil transportation in one go we carry around 2.0 Million barrel. I have seen volatility in oil market and have some knowledge of it, I want to translate this knowledge and carry it fwd in Energy trading and Consultancy...i have worked on ships which had been chartered by Shell, BP, Chevron, China Oil, UNIPEC, S oil and many others....I have been mainly carrying it from Mid east Asia to Far east Asia. West Africa to Asia Asia to US west coast Louisiana, Texas..............

Pls suggest courses and colleges

A few which i have researched are
Rice ( very costly)
Mc Combs
Tulane, Freeman (Ranking is very low)

My Another question is should i first go for MS or MBA................

Hoping to hear some real good replies

You're on the right track with U Texas. I'm not looking to get into Energy post-MBA and haven't researched this area at all, but here's some pointers. I myself am not applying to any of these schools by the way.

Stanford, UC Berkeley - no specifics, but have heard good things about renewables/cleantech
University of Alberta in Canada - Because Alberta is becoming the oil and natural gas center of North America.
Look into AGSM and MBS in Australia - I've heard of some mouth watering salary statistics for at least some AGSM grads who got into energy. Again, Australia's economy is heavily resource extraction dependent, so not really a surprise, accounting for a management skill shortage.

I ll check out AGSM...Ofcourse Asia has the largest of all Energy Thirst, hence the salary. I would have preferred India itself but as you colleges are very much specfic about ur post MBA or say grad degrees.....Hence I was rejected by a few colls basis my Grad qualification they say they require Only engineers ....God knows what are they going to do with them

But Zen I did not find any energy specific course in MBA....How do these guys get translated into Energy sector.You got any idea :roll:

Best thing to do would be to contact a current student through their website and ask.

Or if you can't, contact admissions and ask them to put you in touch with an alum who works in the energy sector or a current student who has done an internship in it. If you explain your background very briefly and say you are trying to figure out if their program is right for you, they should be able to help.

An Indian MBA wouldn't be my first choice for a post-MBA career in Energy, just because the energy sector in India is almost all state enterprise. 100% coal, 90% oil and gas - all government controlled. As for Indian MBA programs not encouraging a non-techie to apply, if that is true then they are bananas.
