Re: Darden (Virginia) 2013 - Calling All Applicants! [#permalink]
Hi all,

I am a current student and wanted to congratulate all those that have been accepted. I have just finished up my first semester and am very happy with my experience so far.

For those that are on the fence as whether or not to matriculate, I would strongly encourage coming to Day at Darden in February or Darden Days in April. I was a R2 admit last year and actually was leaning towards another school before coming down to Darden Days and meeting many of my potential future classmates and experience the place firsthand (beyond the stress/craziness of my interview date). Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about my experiences at the school and I'll try to answer them the best I can.

Good luck to those on the waitlist or applying for Round 2.

Does anyone know about the arrest/citation thing?
I have never been convicted of anything and i have only been charged with really minor things like Minor in Possession of Alchohol

Do they care about this stuff? I assume they are looking for rapist/murderers not minor stuff.

I have the same thing (MIP). Haven't looked at the Darden background check, but I did have to include it with my Fuqua application (instead of asking for convictions like most schools, they asked for any charges, citations, arrests, etc. as well). I included a couple of sentences as an explanation (in my case the charges were dimissed)--I highly doubt this would be an issue or would adversely affect you at all, really.

It looks like the background check is for matriculating students only. So I assume that I don't need to address it unless I choose to come to Darden?

Applied to GEMBA program (mid-Oct 2012) and just got a phone call two days ago with acceptance.

Was also accepted to Stanford Sloan, so I will probably not be matriculating to Darden...

Interesting why does it cost money? Do they hire a company such as kroll to conduct the checks? What does the email you got say?

Thanks!

Just submitted- only two to go! One question-- this is the only school I am applying to that does not use the same application software/program and I couldn't find any way to print out/save a PDF of the complete copy of the application. Anyone able to do so?

Yeah, I dealt with that. I had to modify my responses to fit in Darden's system.

I also had to do some editing after I copy and pasted what my Word doc counted as 500 and 150 words. They run a tight ship!

I discovered its words that use apostrophes that mess up the system word count when you do copy/paste from Word. The fix is to paste in whatever you can at first, then CTRL+F all the words with an apstrophe, and delete/rewrite the word in their system, and then paste in the remaining few words you didn't get in there with the first paste. You'll see when you delete the word it frees up 2 word count and then when you rewrite it, it only uses one. Odd quirk in their system that took me a while to figure out.
