Also, if you haven't done so already, reach out to the Vets clubs of the schools you're applying to. They're a tremendous resource. Feel free to reach out here too - as someone who's on the tail-end of the Round 1 process, all the sage advice I may have is still fresh in my mind.

What are your thoughts on how I should explain my GPA?
1. Mention I didn’t have a clear career vision at that time. However, I am now focused and motivated due to X, Y, and Z.
2. I wanted to carry over my leadership/teamwork experience from the CG and focused my time on varsity athletics, coaching, etc.
3. Combination of the two?

Thanks for the insight.

I would go with Number 2. Being a varsity athlete is a legitimate reason your grades may have taken a hit, and B-schools like varsity athletes. The important thing is to not make excuses, explain the cirbumstances in a brief and direct manner and move on. The important thing is to show the adcom that you can handle the rigors of B-school, and one of the best ways to do that is to get a good GMAT score, particularly on the quant section.

Well now that the Round 1 dust has settled, how'd we do? I wouldn't call a ding, two waitlists, and one acceptance a rousing success, but I'm excited that I got into one of my top four (didn't have any Round 2 schools picked out), and most importantly, I won't be writing any essays over the holidays or have to bug my recommenders!

Looks like I'm headed to Johnson in the fall (unless Tuck takes me from the waitlist). Anyone else make decisions yet? (Except you Mappleby, we know you're headed to Columbia ;) - congrats on that by the way!)

I can shed some light on the interview process/what to expect on the schools I applied to if anybody wants to hit me up during Round 2.

Received several offers, but will likely enroll at Tuck--small, intimate classes, very family friendly (already have kids), and it helps they put $$ on the table. Any other future Tuckies out there?

Good choices to have. Darden is well established but Yale has a great up and coming program. I've also heard the Yale undergrad network is very supportive of Yale SOM graduates which gives you access to a really strong network.

Good news for those of us who are eligible. GI Bill rate going up to over $19,000 next school year.

I am still a year out from applying to schools but have a question about the GI Bill. I did ROTC but did not take a scholarship, does anyone know if my 3 year active duty obligation will count towards meeting the GI Bill service requirements since I did not receive any financial help during school. Thanks!

It should. The best way to verify this is to go to the VA website and request your letter of eligibility. That should confirm what % of the GI bill you're eligible for.

If you didn't take any scholarship money you should be considered pretty much the same as an OCS officer, which means 3 years of active duty time will give you 100%. When you contact the VA, make sure the "no scholarship" part is very clear....you don't want them seeing ROTC listed as your commissioning source and assuming that you had to pay back the 4 year obligation.

Actually, the "Fall 2013" references when applicants plan to matriculate, not apply...

Okay that makes sense. I'll wait for the Fall 2014 Applicants thread to start.

Best of luck! Feel free to reach out and ask any questions you might have. Glad to see you've already got the GMAT done and over with.
