Hi,
I will really appreciate your valuable views on my profile, and comment whether I am competitive for the MBA programs I am targeting or should I drop the idea because I am too old.
I would like to know your opinion about my choices, and appreciate if you could provide names of other programs I should consider.
1) Profile
Age: 45 years
India born male, Swedish Citizen now.
Languages: English, Hindi, Basic Swedish
4 years of teaching experience (after undergraduation).
16 Years of design and technical management experience in Semiconductor Industry. Extensive experience in leading and coordinating geographically dispersed development teams.
I am working as freelance Semiconductor Design Consultant for last 3.5 years. Currently managing (as a consultant) a design team and responsible for the design for test aspect of the program in a multinational mobile phone chip maker company in Sweden.
International Experience : 2 years in India, 8 years in USA, 6 years in Sweden. I have travelled to China and across Sweden to support design projects.
4 years of teaching experience in engineering college after my graduation. My left leg is affected by polio and condition of my leg got worse during my graduation, and I had to undergo surgeries after graduation. During that time I joined as a temporary lecturer in engineering college in my home town. During that time I also founded and supervised (with two other friends) a coaching institute for students preparing for engineering/medical entrance exams.
2) GMAT : 700 (Q 48, V 38, AWA 5.0, IR 5)
3) College info:
Undergraduate Degree: 1989
Degree: Bachelor of Engineering
College: Govt. Engineering College, Jabalpur, India (medium ranking college)
Major : Electronics and Communication Engineering
GPA : 71.24 %
Graduate Degree: 1996
Degree: Master of Technology
College: Indian Institute of Technology , Kanpur, India (Within top 5 in ranking in India)
Major : Microelectronics
GPA : 7.5/10
I was awarded with Cadence Fellowship (Industry sponsored), and I was chosen from the batch of about 60 students. Fellowship provided full scholarship to support my studies, project and living expenses.
4) Significant college and post-college extra-curricular activities or community service:
I don’t have much extra-curricular or community service experience.
2006 - 2007 : Taught English to poor children, Bangalore, India.
2011 - 2012 : Supported one student in graduating college. It’s fulfilling to see that now she is supporting her family.
2012: Tried to find bone-marrow match for colleague in Sweden (with the help of my brother in India, who is a surgeon) who was fighting with cancer, but unfortunately the colleague died.
Mess Secretary during undergraduate degree (probably doesn’t matter)
6) Target programs.
I am looking for Programs which have exchange program with institutes in Philippines. I want to go to Philippines either on exchange program or for project work.
I am also leaning towards European Schools because of higher average age is of students.
NUS Business School (NUS has exchange Program with AIM, Manila Philippines)
Copenhagen Business School
Mannheim Business School
EDHEC
7) Your post-MBA goal.
Post MBA, I want to work in the Semiconductor Industry in Philippines.
• Why Philippines: I my view Semiconductor business activity in Philippines is like that in India 20 years ago, when I had started my carrier in Semiconductor Industry. At that time Semiconductor industry in India was in infancy, and so it is now in Philippines. Now almost every Semiconductor company has its presence in India.
Today Philippines has taken over India in the Call Center business, now there are more call center employees in Philippines than in India. I have strong belief that other high tech industry segment will follow the suit in Philippines with time, and I want to be a part of that growth.
I have spoken to few C-level people in the Semiconductor Industry, who work in the Asia, and their views resonated with my views.
• Short term goal: I plan to return to work in the Semiconductor industry, either in Asia-Pacific/Philippines or in Europe, working for a big or medium sized Semiconductor Company to help develop/expand its business in the Asia-Pacific/Philippines, and in intermediate term I see myself helping an established Semiconductor Company establish an R&D division in Philippines and oversee its operation and growth.
• Long term I see myself setting up a company in Philippines either doing product design or doing design services for the product companies in the field of Semiconductors. Another work I want to do is to improve the university-industry interaction helping students to get real life training through industry projects.
I'm sorry, but I really don't know enough about these programs or their placement in the Philippines to answer.
Best,
Linda
