for the waitlisters, anyone have an idea of our chances?

Well, last year it was 0%, considering no one was taken off the waitlist. This year seems interesting...they waitlisted a lot of people (including me) without interviews back in december and are now piling more onto the WL. I wonder if their overbooking of the class last year led them to utilize the waitlist more heavily, but who knows?

Nevermind Niks! I think they might have put more ppl on WL this year & reduced their admit size given their last year debacle (when they had to offer money to discourage ppl from joining the school).

It does appear a lot of folks are being waitlisted, but how do we know this number is higher than previous years? In chat transcripts, the waitlist director says they typically keep 75-100 waitlisters. It's entirely possible it's still the same number this year.

I can understand they do not want to oversubscribe this year, but I don't necessarily see how that directly results in a bigger waitlist. The waitlist always appears to be far deeper than they actually need!

And don't forget there were several years where Sloan took no one off the waitlist. IMO, the more folks think the waitlist is bogus (ie they can't get off of it), then the less likely qualified applicants will even bother staying on that waitlist and then Sloan will have a problem of having a talented buffer.

Waitlisted. Damn it.

I'm not sure what to make of this ~50/50 split between those admitted and those waitlisted I see on the main page. I agree that given the unexpectadly higher yield Sloan saw last year, making greater use of the waitlist this year is prudent. To all those admitted - congrats! This was a hell of an app, and I thought it was my best by far from the 7 schools I applied to R1. I guess all the WLers will get more color in the chat tomorrow...

Well, that's not entirely true, because a lucky handful of R1 waitlisters were accepted last year in R2. Maybe around 10?

Hi all!

I found out that a Sloan MBA student committed suicide last year because of the pressure. I am considering Sloan, but I have to admit that I am shocked at the discovery. All business schools are a lot of work but I never heard about anybody committing suicide at a top business school. Maybe after all, Sloan is not that good? The purpose of business school is to build your network and improve your skill set. How could a business school drive its students to suicide?

I don't think it's fair at all to hold that against MIT. From everything I have read, the pressure is no higher at MIT than at any other top school. So, who is to say that student wouldn't have also committed suicide at another top school had he or she gone there instead?
